If you are going to go, you might as well race. It is a lot of fun, and you can take it at your own pace. I've never heard anyone making fun of a slow person. There are so many different skill levels out there, and everyone is always learning. They even have novice instructors that will ride with you and give you pointers.

If all you've seen are youtube videos of autox and it looks confusing, ignore that. When you get out there, they give you a map and you get to walk the course (unless you got there at the last minute.) Without knowing the course, a lot of the videos look like the cars are just driving in a random order. Also if some of the more experienced drivers know you're a novice sometimes they'll let you ride with them.

Good luck and have fun!!!

+1

There are always at least 2 dedicated novice instructors. Your first few events you'll be slow because you're just plain learning how to "read the cones". The schools are totally worth it too, but the next one isn't until October.

Sounded like Shin and Brad made it to the Porsche school... I got into work today and saw an email from Friday at 10:30pm, I probably could've made it to that as well

I basically asked if I showed up in the morning anyway, what were the chances of me getting in and the reply was that if I had shown up I could've bipassed the whole waiting list. If anyone had cancelled on the day of, I'd have been in.

It was fun. Minus my car understeering worse than stock. The zen master getting butthurt and not riding with me. He also was the biggest ***** to Kaelie. She was about to get on the course and he was suppose to jump in her car since he was the next avaliable instructor. He looked at her car than got into the porsche behind her. He doesnt like the Kia.

Most instructors didnt like my way of learning and wouldnt help me. There was only one guy who understood what I was doing. He reminded me of

Chevy Chase from Caddyshack

I have like a one minute clip that ill finish editing together I think tonight of the open session. I could make it 4 minutes showing each pass but thats boring. Maybe ill edit two runs? And I need to get a song.

It was a lot of fun. Avoiding the guy jumping one side to the other was boring. After the 2nd time around I wanted to goto the next thing.

Im going to sign up and do the one in August. This time I hope ill have my swaybar problem solved and beable to get my back end sliding out during the early and late apex lesson.

Hey Dondo, got two questions for you, what do you have to do to join the Alfa day's, and does the Proformance license qualify for them to be able to drive? I'm driving today (21st) out at PR and I'll get my license to solo.

you just need sufficient track experience so you should be ok. they require non synthetic clothes, pants and long sleeves, and driving gloves as well. fyi

Man... I wish I'd stopped by the NHRA runs on Saturday. Click for the high res version, and check out the tire deformation!

Have you ever been to one before? It is something to experience. When the top fuel guys go by, the sound goes right through you and your vision goes blurry!

Do you have to be a member (do you have to pay to join?)

What you said you cant even come close to your description of what its like. Your senses or on overload by 250%. Your vision blurs. Your ears scream at you cause its so loud. Your body shakes from the inside out and you feel the heat from the exhaust. You smell the nitro and taste it as well. There is that sixth sense though that you cant fathom that in under 1300ft the car is moving at 300mph. At the 60ft mark they are already at 100mph.
