Thanks for the recommendations and the correction on Pacific Raceway. I was thinking about pads and fluid today too. Where did you buy the pads from? Also did you get your rotors turned when you put on the new pads? I'm still running on the original rotors but they don't pulse at all. I know it's something that's a good practice to do though. Do you just use DOT4 brake fluid? I want to make sure it will still last a decent amount of time for street use.

I got mine at importrp.com. They are in Monroe, so even if you select ground shipping you'll get them right away. $55 for the fronts and $50 for the rears. They are listed as PBR/Axxis Ultimates.

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to use for brake fluid. I also want something that I can use on the street and not have to change for every track day. I'm sure some searching on this forum will turn up good results. I just haven't done it yet.

As far as they Axxis pads go, they work fine on the street. They create more brake dust than the stock pads and they squeal a little bit more, but that's about it. I decided to put my stock pads back on so I could save these for the track.

You can use any "track" fluid on the street. It will outperform the DOT3 in the car...with no problems. I use DOT4 ATE superblue and AT2000 alternately...the color differences make it easier to tell when you have changed it all.

Motul is good , as is Castrol

Stay away from DOT5 fluids...they are a problem.....

Thanks for the info. on buying the pads Skinless. That's pretty reasonable as well. I've read that DOT4 is fine to use but just wanted to get some personal experience. Thanks guys.

Just bought them. thanks guys!

I agree completely with dannobre. I do the same thing. If you're going to become a track junkie, you'll want to get racing pads, and learn to swap them out before and after each track event. I can easily change tires and pads in well less than an hour. The dedicated track pads operate best at high temperature, so there's no fade, but the price you pay for that is that they aren't worth a thing on the street (cuz they're too cold).

I picked up a liter of the ATE superblue and the Axxis pads. Now I'm wondering if it's a good time to do the braided steel brake lines at the same time...

Might as well change them if you are going to do it anway....the fluid in the lines will make it less that you have to bleed out

Keep in mind, though, that if you ever want to do autocross, braided stainless steel brake lines take you out of stock class. They're really not necessary; nice, but not at all necessary.

Autocross rules are non-intuitive. For instance, you can change your front sway bar for a monster one, and you're still in stock class. Or you can change out shocks (within limits). But you can't change shift *****, or lower your seat (we tall folks would like to lower our seats so that we're not looking at the rear view mirror when looking right). If you think you might want to autocross (and the RX-8 is the monster of B Stock), and you would want to run in stock class, you should carefully look at the rules before doing any modifications on your car.

BTW, I'm doing my first track day on Wednesday (a Proformance day). I haven't been on the track since October, so I'm really itching to go.

I thought I'd upload a shot of two laps from Bremerton I recorded on my Gtech. It's a pretty neat tool to see lap over lap differences in your driving.

I've never done a Bremerton track day; too spoiled by PR, I guess. But I've seen video of it, and I would have a lot of trouble dealing with all the traffic on a short, slow track. I think it is unlikely that I'll ever see a Bremerton track day.

It was a nice controlled place to learn where you can't get yourself into too much trouble. I suspect you're right, if you drive PR a lot Bremerton will feel small and it's a looong way away. It is cheaper though.
