more people should make the effort to learn how to tune themselves . ............ I'm fed up with reading about all these projects stalling at the last hurdle .....

That is a much bigger step then most are willing to take. I doubt many would put in the necessary time to properly learn how to tune their car. Most people want plug and play and there is nothing wrong with that.

Its impossible to self tune... Tuners are naturally selected and come from a long line of islanders in the Bermuda triangle.

YOU NEEDDDZZZ MAGIC!

plus it'll cost me a lot more to take the time and learn myself than to pay someone who already knows..

Is the AEM/MS intake prone to water intrusion?

I threw the P0130 code last night driving home in the rain. Got home and pulled the MAF and it was wet with water. Just so you know, I have the AEM currently installed without the fine black filter sock. Figured that sock must be put back on to help with this, so I cleared the code, placed the sock on, cleaned the MAF. Went to work this AM and threw the code again. This time it was not raining, so why the code? Went over all the connections, looks tight as a drum.

I am buying some DEI tonight, wrapping the REVi box completely, and going back to it soon. I still want to tune and dyno the AEM first though. But if I cannot get the AEM to perform in my climate, she is gone.

That would require modifying that AEM piece completely. That would be impossible. I could replace that piece and use something different I guess. I think I may sell it.

most people simply arent capable and/or willing to do that kind of mental gymnastics.

the human mind often struggles with abstract concepts, take dimensional space for example.. higher dimensional space(above 3D) has been studied for at least 2 centuries. and because of that, lots of college kids can follow along and cite principles etc. but how many people in the world after generations of study, truly understand well enough to apply the knowledge to problem solving in any way? 99% of people cant even grasp thre concept of more than 3 dimensions, because that is all we can detect with our senses thus there is no way to visualize this. most who "understand", only are able to do so on a basis of "i was taught 1 + 1 = 2, so it does. Rather than being able to visualize putting two individual apples together and now realizing you have the sum of the individuals.

this is a far overblown out of proportion example. but in the same manner as above, the concepts of tuning to a slight degree, and moreso the ability to apply those concepts is simply out of most peoples grasp. could anyone here learn to do it, i have no doubt. but for the vast majority, it would not be worth the time and effort as it would likely be far to great.

i dont think anyone who really knows what they are doing would have you think its done with smoke and mirrors. because those that are truly capable likely dont fear that their customers might up and learn to do it themselves, they know how unlikely that is. I think they come across that way when trying to convey that there is much more involved than simply regurgitating AFRs and Ign degrees that have been read.

With my setup - water was coming from above through the gap between the bonnet and the bumper . Was a simple fix which involved being creative with the silicone gun and redirecting the water to fall elsewhere ....

Perhaps - but the reality is that there is not a lot more to it than exactly that. It does take a lot of persistence though .
All I'm saying is that it is not as hard as people think and with the huge effort I see people putting into their projects it's a shame that it all comes to a grinding halt because they couldn't put a little more in to learning the tuning side of things.

Dang - just threw that P0130 again. I had the entire intake off last night, cleaned it and reinstalled it. Mike, did you ever get a cell with it? Makes me wonder if my MAF is on the frits...

well, there is and isnt. I mean depedning on circumstances you need to be able to do more than that, scaling MAF/injectors, dwell, understanding the nuances of making smooth transitions at key points etc.. and given that there is no room to make a mistake and run into detonation - thats a tall order for the average Joe

Thanks - I will look at the MAF tonight again.

As for the tuning with the ATR from Cobb, I know of a local talent that used it to make a turbo map - and was successful...
