RX8 Dyno Day - Kirkland...26 Feb
#53
I'm pretty excited about my before-after tests with the oil/fuel additives. Course, spending $75 TWICE to see if a product like this works isn't too exciting lol...
I'll accept donations! :D

"Their policy is "we'll run the car a couple-three times; but when the numbers start repeating, we'll put the next car on. There's no sense in running a car over and over again to show the same results."
$75 for ONE pull.
That pisses me off, mostly due to reading this http://64.9.213.132/rx7club.com/foru...d.php?t=394238
I also say Intec Racing in Kent is having a Dyno day...like $10 a pull.
EDIT:
Adding below comment.
DMP, Im not pissed at you. More upset with what sounds like double talk from CarbConn.

As FastMike mentioned - it's not $75 for one pull...it's $75 to hook the car up, and make a couple-three pulls, but "there is no reason to dyno a car 6 times if the first three or 4 runs produce identical results"
I have to pay twice, to follow the directions of the fuel/addatives I'll be adding to the car.
It'll go like this:
Darin dyno's with 1/8 tank fuel. Dyno's a few times.
Darin pulls off the dyno, drives to gas station, adds fuel addative, oil addative, then fuels up his car.
Then, Darin will drive around for 15-20 minutes, and come back to the shop, and hook back into the machine after the car currently on the rollers finishes. $75 to hook back up.
My 'donations accepted' statement really means "I'm prepared to bite the bullet for the sake of the RX8 community, but I'd take a few bucks if anyone wanted to contribute'
:D
[edit] i bet if we had 100 cars, we could get a reduced-rate, too! :D

I want to hook up the canscan and log all the runs if posssible. I want to compare the data logs from the dyno...to the CanScan logs for the A/F etc. I may have my car on all day...I want to try a few different maps....that will make the #'s change...therefore more pulls :D
(Just Kiddin :D about the`whole day thing!)

Nemesis8, 180 max WHP? I thought (hoping) the 8 would be higher than that and also you have a few minor mods that I thought may provide slightly better numbers than the stock 8. I know I have read in many places that the 8 doesn't dyno well . Does you car feel good/responsive and as strong as when you first got it?
#62
It's actually stronger now with 21K on the car. My mileage has gone up also to around 19-20 MPG.
The graph was SAE corrected by the way. I am installing my midpipe on Monday and will run another dyno then. So, right now I only have the Racing Beat exhaust and a high flow dropin air filter. I think the midpipe will show the biggest gain. After the midpipe, I'm installing underdrive lightened pulleys and will do another dyno, then....

If I use a 5 to smooth the curves, they drop in HP
John Racz just e-mailed me the same files that you had. How do you get the torque and A/F ratios to show in the software??

You need them to format the files they sent you. The dynojet software is different than the reader software...which is a viewer...kinda like adobe reader. You can read the data they send...but nothing else

Does this mean the 235 flywheel hp mazda quotes (I think that's what it is?) is very inaccurate? Because with a 15% drivetrain loss that should be ~200 at the wheels, stock.

Thanks to EVERYONE that helped with tools/lifting/stock exhaust etc.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I reviewed our graphs(No "M" flash as far as we can tell).
I think that building a "real" straight pipe/turndown that has a bolt on flange at muffler will be the way we go in the future for us.
Muffler for day to day/ straight pipe for autox events.
We had more TQ/HP from idle up to about 7K then I think that we were getting a misfire or something at top and graph flattened out.
Maybe we will try better wires with pipe and do another test.
Car did run leaner with straight pipe and it took off a lot of weight out at the end of the car which is also important for us.
Lower polar moment of inertia with straight pipe is a good thing.
I think that Shelbi's car made 193 peak with stock exhaust but I think that is would make in excess of 200 IF we car cure whatever is happening in the last 1000 rpms.
I thought the 138 HP car had a bad plug but he said that was not it.
Hmmmm...
I don't know.
