TWR September Drive - 28 September 2008
For September, The-Winding-Road is headed out to the southern flanks of Mt Baker. Making our way along the south shore of the Skagit River before heading north through Concrete and up Burpee Hill (one of the more challenging roads I've ever driven) we'll BBQ on the shores of Baker Lake at Panorama Point. We'll then venture west again enjoying some of the great alterantives to Hwy 20 before finishing up a few blocks from where we started, in Sedro Wooley.
We're meeting at 9:00 at Janicki Fields, Sedro Wooley, with the Drivers' Meetign at 9:45 and departure at 10:00.
Details and registration available at http://www.the-winding-road.com/modu...ent.php?eid=42.

Yup. Did you register on Kristopher's website? See his sig for the link. That way you know what to bring for the potluck BBQ, plus Kristopher will make enough route books.

Fusion, I don't recognize your handle. If you haven't been on a drive with The-Winding-Road, this one's on the house. But please, register at The-Winding-Road. Don't worry if the coupon code doesn't work, I'm looking into an issue with that part of the system, and keep track on my own any how.

Sean: Way home was fun, I thought for sure I'd seen the last of you when the HOV lane started up. Kinda depressing that I kept pace...

Highlights:
Good turn out:
Check out how much lower Chris' S2k is than the rest of the cars here. I was up on the concrete wedge just to be able to catch the very top of his hood over the other cars!

LOL, I was telling Fahrf that when Kristopher said "this next section coming up is one of the more advanced roads I've driven", I was thinking "OH $HIT.... if it's advanced for HIM, I'm TOAST!" and then I started to lose my rear end in the first turn!!
Nice pics Anijo! Mine are coming shortly.

Here we go!
Meeting at Janicki Fields in Sedro Wooley - Notice how CLEAN and SHINY my 8 is after my Zaino marathon last week LOL
Detour and convenient pee break Was this just before the KILLER twisties with gravel ??
Ahhhh... We made it to Baker Lake for lunch, except that the camping/picnicing area was closed. So we hiked everything down to the "boat ramp" and set up the BBQ and sat on rocks - roughing it It was great though - very beautiful!
Wild and Crazy Chris with his lowrider supercharged S2K... I love trying to keep up with him
BEFORE (clean but rock chips from other drives!)
AFTER (dust, dirt, BUGS and MORE rock chips )
That's all folks!

Oh, one part I forgot to mention was the drive up to Sedro Wooley.. I have never seen than many motorcycles on the road at one time, except when I went to Sturgis. It was a blast being surrounded by (mostly) Harleys pretty much the whole way up for an hour. I'd zoom up to one herd of them and hang out, then zoom up to the next herd, blasting the song "Burn Rubber" at the same time.
Did anyone get pics of the bikers?

I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. This is what I live for.
And yes, I did screw up one corner on the way up the hill. I had glanced in the mirror and lost track of where I was, started going in too deep, corrected and was set up for a way too early apex, adjusted throttle and steering and put Ruby into a four wheel drift that kept her out of the hillside but took us about half way over the yellow line on corner exit. Whoops! BTW, it's a very different road when the trunk is empty.
