Question for you guys. This will be my first winter with my 8 and feel the need to get snow tires. Do you guys have snow tires? And if so, do you feel it is necessary given the amount of snow we usually get here yearly?

i drove mine all winter last year in Boise and Cascade. i didn't have any problems with the tires i had, just slow down. but this year i am going to park it since my tires need replaced.

Good to know. I looked a 8 early this year the first time I tried selling my old car and the owner said they drove it last winter and it did fine. If you drove yours in Cascade, which is usually worse than Boise, I think I'll survive. I have no problem driving slow as my previous cars were all front wheel drive. Better than rear, but still not AWD.

You should be fine, I drove it from idaho to kansas through the rocky mountains with ***** of snow and managed. just do keep it slow. but if you do get winter tires, try getting 16in wheels first, the difference in price of tires from 16 to 18 is like 100 dollars

but how much do you really save when you have to buy 4 rims too?

Thanks guys. Oh and the first problem is that 16's don't fit over the calipers on a GT. So I will get 17's when I do make the purchase.

Also, have any of you guys removed the VFAD?

You can find 4 cheap wheels off a stock car with a 5x114.3 for like 50-100. You may not see the savings right away but think about later on down the road. Yes you are right, 16in wheels wont fit with sport suspension brakes. But even 17s will save you on tires.

No i haven't. My rx8 is stock, except for tanabe lowering springs.

I am pulling the VFAD off this weekend. Just seeing if anyone with experience would wanna lend a hand... but I am sure I can figure it out. Thanks to all the DIY's on here!

Ha I have all seasons on now, they are like 400 tread wear, i am not worried too much about performance tires on the rx8 so it works perfect for me. I have had them for well over a year and still at about 65% tread left. i believe they are Kuhmo tires.

I was VERY happy to find out I have all seasons. Sure they will be out performed by summer tires in the summer... but at least you don't have to buy 2 sets of tires!

How much are you getting your tint for? I have 18% on my rx8 and it is perfect, not too dark at night so that i cant see, but dark enough to keep it alittle cooler inside and it looks sex with the red. I'll post pics when i upload them.

Ya, i drove it from idaho to kansas when i got back from Korea, and it was winter time...Rocky Mountains and Trucks + bad weather = chips in hood. So when i get back from Iraq i am going to repaint the car. I am not too worried about it. I got a good deal when i bought the car. ha

Treitz, I haven't removed my VFAD but I am kinda interested in doing it, I'm just not sure I understand the benefits of it... But if you're intersted, maybe we can pick a weekend and just have a VFAD removal party. :D

Lol right on. I was going to do it today... but I researched it more and talked to another guy on here who said that if you cap the vacuum hose, causing the vfad to be open all the time, you are basically doing the same thing, while still utilizing the air intake function of the VFAD.

So that is what I did for now. It was $6 (for the caps) and I didn't have to remove the bumper. Seams like a better solution for now at least.

Beyond a little more loudness... didn't really notice much of a difference, as far as power gain goes I mean. But even CAI isn't super noticeable beyond the sound. Also, For the first day or two I felt like my idle was little bit rougher too... seams ok now. So if you feel like trying out something that is cheap, sure! Lol.

I also had the "loss of power" recall done on Friday at Dennis Dillon, so between that and the "mod" who knows what could be contributing to what. When I drove away from the dealer I felt like there was a little more/quicker throttle response, but after driving it for a few days it just feels normal again. Either because I am use to it, or the recall was a pretty minimal change.

The car was just resetting it's ecu... I always seem to notice more power for about a day after I unplug my battery.

How 'bout all this snow eh?

more power after disconnection the battery? i hadn't noticed that, i had to pull mine and charge it the other day. in fact, mine died on me while idling after i put the freshly charged battery back in. but it has been pretty cold up here.
