Options needed:less is more!

1) Make a superlight version optional:
no power anything, no radio, no Nav system, no sunroof no heavy add-ons of any kind, superlight weight:
molded lightweight racing seats with actual side supports,
19" wheels with 235 front 275 rears with sticky Hi Perf. summertires
strutbar to firewall supports,
thicker antiroll bars,
4 or 6 point racing harness
switcheable maps (track/street) to also operate
Catalytic converter bypass valve for trackdays!!!

And off course F.I. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By eliminating a lot of the options they can keep the price really low too!!
Now there's a thought.
$ 30,000 sounds doable!

Thumbs down Remove Cabin-Length Console

You are the one who is retarded, you dork! The "cabin length console" is a vital part of the RX-8's structure, Mazda calls it the "powerplant frame". This is the center structure that resists flexing of the car, and is is a critical design element for light weight and a rigid, good handling car.

Maybe you would be happier with a Buick?

I don't think I've had as much fun driving anything other than my RX-8. I also understand that there are some changes that the car could benefit from. But, if I lose the feeling I get when I drive my 8, I'd most definitely PASS on the changes. More power would be great, but how would it all work together?

My ride is completely stock...but I can see why someone would want to upgrade the radio...brakes...(maybe some cross-drilled Brembos would be nice!). The push button start and puddle lights would be alright, I guess.

I honeslty believe that if they offered all the changes everyone has mentioned....(especially engine modz).....the base price would SOAR to near 30K with no options.

Has anyone noticed that the Shinka package alone is over 6K for the new model? It's happening already people. How many threads have been posted about the pricing increase of Mazda accessories?

I say if they can't make small changes without hitting us in the pockets...leave it alone.

518!

Sorry, I don't know the structural ins and outs of this car. I actually have a life outside of this car. Regardless, it is unattractive and made from cheap plastic. Why would I be happier with a Buick? Because I am complaining about something I don't like about the car? Then I guess me, you and everyone else who posted here should be driving a Buick, because this isn't a thread about what you want Mazda to keep the same. You're obviously much more intelligent than I could ever hope to be.

Ok well back to telling mazda we need a turbo. Not as a production feature but as an option through mazda or mazdaspeed. 300whp is a good solid number. dealer installed and as long as there is no messing around with parts and with a good tune from mazda, I can see a warrenty being possible. It will boost sales and numbers of happy 8 owners. Come on mazda!

- Better center console, something smoother sliding.

- A non-triangular shift ****, something like the bmw shape would be good, or at least like the one on the Mazda3.

- Perforated steering wheel.

- Optional non-leather sports seats. Not all people living in america supersize their asses. Something like the Recaros on the Evo 8 would be perfect. Lumbar adjustment on non-leather seats.

- Dimming mirror as a standalone option. I don't want a hole in my roof just so I can keep from getting blinded at night.

- Auto up/down on all windows.

As for performance,
8 speed DSG setup. Ratios tightened for greater accelaration. No extra power needed.

And, not cause I want one but cause I want the whiners to stfu, a factory jet engine option.

1) A real oil guage, and some of the other guages mentioned earlier wouldn't be a bad idea.
2) Adjustable pedals and telescoping steering wheel.
3) Better paint selection, the new blue is basically aqua... give us the dark blue that you give the mazda6. it'd look amazing on the 8!
4) As long as we're upgrading the paint, let's get a few more layers of clear so it doesn't chip as easily.
5) It's been said before... FI.
6) If you go FI, give more power to those who stay NA.
7) Keep making this brilliant and beautiful car. I've enjoyed every minute of driving it, even the crashing part where your design saved my life! OK, I didn't enjoy the crash, but the walking and living thing afterwards is darn nice.

----

Side note, if this is going to been seen by mazda, can the mods delete out the arguing and insulting comments above? I don't think they add anything to the discussion and will hurt mazda's opinion of us as a group.

Yeah!! Having to worry about spilling my drink every time I shift is annoying.

Lots and lots, but why not just stick with the very top!

(#1) Get rid of the fake oil pressure gauge. No, I'm not asking for a
real gauge (though it would be nice) but simply to get rid of the fake one.
It has no function; there's an idiot light too. It's got one purpose only that I can see:
to LIE to the driver/buyer about the sophistication of your car. The car would be
more honest and I'd feel less regret at my purchase if it simply wasn't there.
I understand the issues involved in putting a real guage there - there's
a strong legitimate argument why it's rational to just omit it. l But to put in a fake instead and not tell the buyer? What type of person/company even thinks of that, let
alone goes ahead and does it?

Other's have said they'd like a real guage, and I would too (i'll probably
put one in aftermarket soon) but really, that's not my #1 want or even
in the top 50.

But every time I look at that guage I feel embarassed. I realize that if I had
known this, I would not have been able to bring mysefl to purchase this
car. I realize that some bunch of "marketing" folks at mazda have utter
contempt for the intelligence of their buying public, and I fell for it, so
maybe I am an idiot after all.

Seriously, _triggered by this one issue alone_ I will never buy another Mazda/Ford
unless I convince myself that the attitude represented by this fake gauge has
been expunged. I look at every product decision Madza (perhaps
Mazda N/A predominately) makes so much more cynically now, and its alarming how much more comprehensible Mazda becomes. And no, while this sort of thing happens to some extent of all car companies or all large companies anyway, it's _not_ the
case that everyone is this bad or so obviously contemptuous of us.

So let me revise my #1.

#1 (just corrected slightly): Fire every person in Mazda/Ford who decide
on, approved, or even tacitly allowed, the idiot light dressed up to look
like a guage and promote anyone (who's still there if any) who tried to object.

01. Owner adjustable idle... I'd like to bump mine up to 950 or 1000 rpm.
02. NAV that plays MOVIE DVD's when the car is parked (then we could MOD it to play anytime )
03. Auto-Close Windows and Moon Roof (Auto-Down on Passengers Side too.)
04. Differential Size Options when ordering new car.
05. Stall Converter Options when ordering new car.
06. Roll down rear windows instead of the poppers we now have.
07. A "Deflated Spare Tire would give us a little more room back there.
08. An on-board electric air compressor to inflate our newly designed spare tire.
09. Timer that keeps radio on after key is in the off position.
10. Auto door lock/unlock when placed in/out of gear.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! My wife hates to even ride in my car because her head is always in that rotary hole of the seat.

I'd like to see clear corners a bit cheaper, and the seat aluminum insert is an issue for me too. I'm average height (5ft 4) and I can't lean back into the seats because of it (whether I'm driving or as a passenger).

For my husband, it would be nice not to lose 3 inches of headroom because of the moon roof (we just got a new one that has this, but our old one was without).

More HP (as everyone else has said) and lower prices on parts. Once you start moding it becomes addictive. If you bring down the prices, more people are going to start doing it, and those of us who already are will be able to do more (and probably end up spending more in the long run).

Apart from that, I love the car! I am convinced your awesome safety features saved my husband's life when he hit a wall at 80 mph last month, so don't change them!! We went out and bought a new one last weekend. I am very impressed.

More power, 300hp. More Torque, 220ft/lbs at 3000 rpm. Less rattles and road noise. The one thing that gets me on my 40 mile commute is that the tires drone and I can hear resonant frequencies in the chassis. I like hearing the engine and exhaust but not the tires and wind. Oh and more comfortable head rests (no rotary hole) Maybe a sewn in rotary symbol or something.

My $0.02

doubling most of what everyone else said, reading through it just copied what all I liked and added my own stuff, here it is

Hood dampers

harness so aftermarket stereo is available

Clear corners with stealth bulbs

Bring yellow paint back!

rotor shaped Push startbutton (note - see '06 Rx-8 that comes close)

Console armrest and center consoles cushier. Shouldn't have to

buy aftermarket pads

autodown passenger window from driver side

3rotor engine

stronger paint, or stock with a 3m clearbra. I've barely had my car 10,000 miles and chips ALL over the front bumper

smart entry

auto climate control. Hell, make it when I put the setting on 0 air, I get 0 damn air

No cupholders

3.5mm inline stereo jack

Amen on the rusted rotors. Seriously, makes my car look like an 88 pickup

Brakes that don't squel 10 minutes after you buy the car.

3) Suspension springs
4) MS Cat-back as the stock exhaust & MS CAI as the stock intake
5) JDM clear corners
