Supercharger on an 09

Will this Supercharger work on an 09? I emailed Pettit and still have not gotten a response.

I would assume since it is the same engine as the other 6 ports it will work. The only tricky part could be the ECU and engine management since it is now different. Does anyone know or can Pettit chime in?

I'm willing to test if need be. Hehehe.

I know Moon was looking at this before he moved and I think Cam talked about it. Most 09 owners do not want to give up their warrenty and a flash for the 09 has not been done.
Call Cam--he doesnt have time to really answer e mails fast.

Cam's email is all screwed up.....he is answering as he can. A phone call is best. I understand that he is working on or has just completed an 09 setup.

Very nice. I am willing to give up my warranty for a Supercharger. It has less of a chance to cause engine problems I think than a turbo. If a S/C is available first for the 09 then I'll definitely go that route, even though I could build my own turbo but again engine management is my main issue.

Even if a flash doesn't become available wouldn't a piggyback still work?

Yea a piggy back will work but it is not the best choice. Presently Cobb is working on the 09 and should have the AP done in the next month or so.

Sorry for this misimformation here......it seems that Cobb is not interested in the 09 and up models. Not enough of them to warrant the investment 4/8/10

Ehh..

Let's not start this.

I agree with your point, only because at this time, a S/C can not hit the same power levels as a turbo in our car.

If you push it as far as the turboed guys do, then you will have the same chances.

I was not intending to start anything. A S/C is damaging and can be as damaging. Anything you do will damage it and an engine can only make so many revolutions in a lifetime.

My point was merely to state that it in general you don't hear of people blowing their engines with a S/C where as lots of turbo newbies blow their engine, or damage it with a turbo. I myself am a boost newbie.

I am very definitely interested in a good, well-engineered FI kit for my 09 RX-8. I won't be able to afford it for a few years, anyway, and by that time, I suspect I'll be ready to give up the engine/powertrain warranty. Until then, I'll have fun with safer, less expensive parts.

A S/C will help sacrifice longevity of a Renesis engine just like any other FI setup. Lets not get this confused with other threads. Lots of turbo owners love being able to push the 8 when turbo'd simply because it is a completely different feel from most other turbo cars and from stock of course. Some owners complain about the engine not being strong enough but those same people are the ones who have no clue as to what type of care is needed and it looks like the majority (I could be wrong) of people who want an FI steup for the 8 would rather have a turbo but sometimes switching over to a S/C with the ideology of it being safer ( Plenty of stories on this one). How you tune and how hard you push the car everyday is what sacrifices the longevity of your engine. Some people blow renesis engines that are turbo'd because they like to find what exactly (WHP) the Renesis is capable of and they do not complain since they can afford to rebuild the engine or buy a new one. There are all types of related issues that contribute to our engines life span.

I understand we are in a thread for a supercharger on a 09 but the comment was not concrete, but vague. As for the supercharger in a 09, I think pettit has already made one or have been working on it like Phil's 8 mentioned in the above statement.

Again, my apologies for going off topic. Lets continue on with the subject.

I just called them and looks like they are working on it currently, but they don't have any projections and I didn't pry for details. Thanks all for the info.

Yes, it works.

If you go see Pettit, Cam will tell you he can put one on if you got the cash. I almost took out a loan when he told me that

That's what he told me anyways "if you have 8 grand, bring your car Friday, pay us, and you'll have it back tuned and supercharged Monday"

Soon you will be mine supercharger... my preciousssss

But yea seriously, there's a few minor engine modifications on the block, but otherwise Cam said it ran fine. I didn't get a chance to see it in action but he showed me an 09 engine with the S/C on it.

many things need addressing before any kind of FI is placed on this car. Cam will inform you.

Considering Cam offered to install it on mine, I would imagine he's got the majority of the issues already resolved.
