$1,000 over invoice for 2005 Model ?
It has been a very long time since I haggled with an auto dealership....I am still driving my '85 RX7. I spent several hours the last few nights negotiating with my local dealership in Tampa for an '05 RX8 GT Titanium/Black Leather. In the end, the best offer that I was able to get was ~ 1,000 over invoice (confirmed on dealers paperwork and Edmunds). To this I requested several add on items [ Front air dam 500, Mazdaspeed flywheel 620, 6 disc CD 500, exhaust finishers 250, fender strakes 250, and rotary accent pkg 139 = $ 2259 with me handling the respective installs/labor separately ] Total = 32,399 for GT with add-ons. Just wanted some opinions on whether this is a good deal/consistent with current sales elsewhere in the country. I was also curious re: the added "pre-delivery service" fee of 499.95 which is stated as being for 'cost and profit to the seller/dealer for items such as inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting new and used vehicles and preparing documents related to the sale'....this one did not come up until reviewing the buyers order. I started the paperwork last night, but did not sign it yet since I need to meet with my bank on Monday morning to finalize the loan. Words of wisdom out there ?

sounds too high to me. I'm writing to you, because of two major coincidences:
1. I am looking for almost the same 05RX8: 6-spd, Ti-Gray, MT/GT Pkg., and no other add-ons.
2. I also own an 85 RX-7 GSL-SE. Sadly, is not maintainable (fuel leak, hard-to get parts; rusted frame). This problem is why I'm looking for an RX-8 (used 04, or new 04/05).
My research for RX-8 is with CU, and some financial outfits that help buyers judge purchase price on cars. They are giving me lower numbers.

Sounds high too me. They are still wanting a premium for the 2005. If you have waited this long (still have your rx-7) why don't you wait a few months longer a save yourself a lot of $$$.

Fair Value
Fair value for the car should be $500 over invoice currently. If you can wait 1-2 months you will be able to get it at invoice.
Mazda dealers must be emboldened by the success of the 3 and the good sales over the summer, but reality simply doesn't hold out. There are too many '04's left over, production on the '04's was too high, and the car is really a niche market vehicle, with a potential major revision coming out in 06 or 07, which will devalue the current bunch of vehicles. But hey, I ain't a car dealer, so what do I know.

Hold out for a deal.
I paid $500 over invoice 2 months ago on an '04...you should be able to get a better deal. Make sure you get one with a serial # over 35600 and you are practically getting an '05.

The dealer actually let you out of there without signing? Wow! Now you know the price, seek competition and see who can beat it. Many will drop the delivery fee. That's an add on that's been there since the 60s. Could be further back. I have found that once you have the bottom line from so and so another dealer will beat that price by $400 or more. I used a broker for competition and that worked pretty well. On a $30 K vehicle $400 does not seem much but man, you need every cent you can get. They are playing with your money, your loan and on and on. I have found 100% that if a dealer lets you go home with the bottom go for broke price without signing, there's another dealer willing to get your business and drop an additional $400 plus! Its there fee so you get to negotiate it out! Go for it. Don't sign until some other dealership matches the options apple per apple and then drops the delivery charge. They get kickbacks from Mazda and so don't fall for the sales crap that you are taking food from his kids mouths.

You could try Lindell Mazda in St. Pete, I live in Tampa but they made it worthwile (on an '04 said he would do close (~@$200 over invoice) for '05). I worked with Sonny Gonzales...
Of course I had done tons of research etc etc.. last day of month...

Follow-up: I did an Edmunds internet dealer inquiry and got multiple, prompt replies with heavy competition for my business. I found out that several of the local dealers have a $500 over invoice, no haggle offer available if the inquiry comes via internet sales. This, I would recommend to everyone as a starting point of the negotiation phase (following thorough research on the vehicle and options you desire). Ultimately, I was able to get the 2005 Titanium 6 speed GT with black leather for $400 over invoice. I picked the car up last night and am still beaming....what an AWESOME vehicle this is. I added a front air dam, rotary accent package, fender strakes, exhaust finishers, aluminum door sill plates, 6 CD changer, valve stem caps, window tinting, and car cover. I am also awaiting delivery/install of the Mazdaspeed flywheel and clear corners. I would highly recommend Ferman Mazda in Tampa...they came through with a great deal and experience from the sales staff to the top notch service department which handled the add-ons. Thanks for your comments and advise.....I'll post pics soon.
