$8000 off MSRP

FYI, Autobarn Evanston near Chicago is offering a no-haggle $8000 off MSRP ($7k w/out MAC) on 2005 RX8 GT's.

I recently received my new VR 2005 RX-8 GT w/spoiler from them (8/05 build with 11 miles):

$32040 MSRP (GT+Spoiler) - $8000 discount including MAC financing - $500 Zoom-Zoom Live rebate (contract date was 12/30) for a total of $23540 before SC tax and shipping. Document fees and temporary tags were around $80. The Autobarn arranged shipping through McNutt Auto Transport for $525 to South Carolina (~ 750miles).

Buying over the phone was a little scary, but the sales manager (Michael Korp) at Autobarn was very easy to work with and seems to be pretty knowledgeable about RX-7’s and 8’s. The car arrived exactly as promised - in perfect condition - and the whole experience was surprisingly painless. Aside from Jim Ellis Mazda in Atlanta who had similar deals when they were offering 25% off MSRP (but not the color combination/option package I was looking for), none of the dealers within a 300 mile radius could come anywhere close to this deal, even when given the opportunity to match it.

Thanks to everyone at rx8club who has posted about their buying experience (and Astral for the Zoom-zoom rebate!). It certainly helped in finding a good deal and recognizing when it was time to pull the trigger. Autobarn apparently has ~13 GT’s left (silver, black, titanium), and Michael said that they would offer similar deals to anyone from rx8club that was interested. Good luck to those still looking for a great deal - they are out there!

Wow, great deal. I think I would be pretty nervous buying a car sight-unseen, but that's a terrific deal for anyone in the area that can go pick it up. What interest rate did you get on the MAC loan?

i hate Autobarn .. i know all the dealers around here and am sure other would give you better deals .. try wilkins in villa park or roto in arlingtn heights

buying over the phone is no big deal .. done it .. works 20 times better than haggling at the dealer .. and everything is on paper and takes so much quicker

and finally STOP buying out the chicago 8s ..we dont have many left.. bastards

That's what I was thinking. I paid 23,500 for my '04 GT last summer with 27k miles on it. And that was a pretty good deal at the time. Maybe I should have waited 6 months.........

It was a little unnerving buying sight unseen, but flights from here were expensive after Independence Air went bankrupt, and I didn't really want to risk having to drive through a snowstorm with a new car anyway. Autobarn treated me well, and I respect the fact that they are offering great deals without the normal negotiating hassle. They were confident enough in their product that they allowed me to add a return disclaimer to the contract with no hesitation.

I don’t recall the actual MAC interest rate off the top of my head, but even their best rates are high. Do the calculations carefully to see if the $1000 rebate is really going to save you money. My loan won’t see the 4th month.

On resale value, it seems that even on the best deals, depreciation is going to be painful. Hopefully Mazda will limit production this year to keep it from happening again next year on the 2006’s. Luckily there are worse things than being stuck driving an RX8 for a few years.

I paid 19800 for my 04 6spd 8 with 19000 miles. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I talked to a salesman at Autobarn. He told me there are seven dealers across the country that have GT's for $8000 off . Some special deal for taking the last 05 8's. Anyone know who the other dealers are. Autobarn does not have a GT in Blue & I want to get that $8000 off.

Interesting about the special deal on the last of the 05's. My VR from Autobarn was an August build date. As for the other dealers, my guess is that Mazda spaced the seven throughout the country...probably at their biggest dealers. I would try searching bigger cities and see which dealers have a large inventory.

Also try Jim Ellis Mazda of Marietta (Zip 30060)...they were offering 25% off MSRP at the end of last year and still have a bunch of 8's (looks like 26...maybe they are one of the seven?), including a couple blue GT's if mazdausa.com is correct.

Ok, i live in chicago, dealt with the Autobarn, they treated me well, however they don't have what i'm looking for

However, i did find one about 300 miles away!

So, questions...

Shipping:
Was this hard for them to set up? Did they immediately offer this option? Did they schedule the delivery? Was it prompt? Did it feel like something they'd done before, or was this new to them?

Financing:
You financed through MAC...did it not matter that you lived in a different area?

Registration:
Did they do this for you, or do you have to do this yourself when the car showed up?

Regarding your questions on shipping, I'm sure that Autobarn had shipped vehicles before. They were well versed on what carriers they were comfortable with, how much insurance the shipper carried, how long it would take for pickup and delivery, costs, etc. I used their recommended carrier (McNutt) and let the dealer take care of all the arrangements. Delivery was relatively prompt, although I think they had some internal miscommunication at the dealership that delayed actually contacting the carrier for pickup. The only negative, which most likely applies to all vehicle transport companies, is that they couldn't pinpoint an exact date for delivery until the day they picked up the car. The driver then contacted me from the road on the morning of delivery (8am) with his expected time of arrival (6pm). He also gave me his cell number so that I call him in the afternoon to make sure he was still on schedule. The driver seemed pretty flexible and didn't seem like he would have been upset if he had to wait an hour or two for me to get home. Shipping to your place of employment is also an option, but I preferred to receive it at home. Total time from finishing all of the purchase paperwork to receiving the vehicle was about two weeks, but I'm sure that it could have been done in a week if I was in a hurry or had pushed Autobarn harder, but I was busy at the time and later was better for me.

MAC:

Registration:

You have to take care of registration in your own state, but I believe the dealer is required to collect any sales tax that is required in your state as part of the purchase contract. It may vary by state.

Conisdering they are 05 & its 06 right now, I dont see what all the fuss is about?
You figure you were gonna get atleast 3000 off msrp to begin with, so they are roughly doubling it to make way for the 06's

Wow, interesting theory...i wonder!

Nothing against the Autobarn, they seem like a fine dealership...they were quite nice to me...but they didn't seem sophisticated enough to troll rx8club for sales.

They def called me in Dec offering me a sick deal on an 05...too bad they didn't have one i liked

But hey, maybe i'm one of them?!?! Wuhahaha.

Hedgecore, what I meant on the financing is that they required a minimum of $12.5k to be financed with MAC to get the rebate. I think some of the other dealers were only requiring $7500 or so. I was told it was a regional thing, but I suspect it's more of a profit thing.

Sorry if the posts sound fake He"no R"manrulez! My intent was just to share the story of my purchase, and to give others another price data point to work with. I wasn't even considering NEW rx8’s until seeing jmadams74's similar post back in November about Jim Ellis offering 25% off on all Mazdas in stock. They didn't have the color/package combo I was looking for, but it gave me a price to match. I called several closer dealerships when I had the Autobarn paperwork in hand to sign, and told them that I would buy from them immediately if they could match the Chicago deal. Nobody could come close at that time (late Dec, early Jan), and I found their invoice minus rebates price quotes to be rather insulting considering I qualified for S-plan. Just trying to keep the information flowing and do my part to help people from being ripped off. You of all people should appreciate that heman!

I'm not sure if I would say that Autobarn isn't sophisticated enough to troll the boards. I first heard about their deals, as I think you may have too hemanrulez, when their general sales manager posted about their GT deals on this forum. Naturally the moderators yanked his commercial, non-sponsor post within hours.

I financed $10k on my new '05 and then paid it off as soon as I could get on-line and find the payoff amount. Cost me about $95 in interest for the $1k in cash.
