Need your opinion
I am looking at two different 05 RX8s, and both of them are brand new. They have the following option(s) on them:
1) Exterior color ---Blue, base model with a spolier
2) Exterior color--- Silver, base model with Sport package, but no spolier
If I have a choice between color, spolier or the sport package, what should I choose?
Also, is the traction control and DSC really good or worth the $$$?
Lastly, does anyone know how much will it cost me to put on a spolier after I have purschased the car?
Thanks for your input

can't find a deal like that.
I'm in the Detroit area, and I've talked to a couple of the dealers here about their 2005 manual trans RXs. I can't get anyone of them to take off more than the current rebates. How the heck do you get a car salesman to take off $8000???

Also what's the strategy here? I've never been good at negotiating a car price.
Do I tell the guy what I'm willing to pay, then call him everyday and ask if he's readdy to sell me the car for that?

Haven't seen any good mark downs on the 6-spd. in Northern California. Our Base MSRP is around $27,500 but the dealers all have added the small optional stuff (spare tire kit, Mazda badging, floor mats, etc. I'm limited to considering an AT so I am tuned into watching for those.
A local Nor Cal dealer advertised an AT w/ MSRP of $27,989 a few weeks ago at $20,889 w/ MAC financing. The Mazda USA inventory still shows it in stock. Another dealer offerered to knock down an AT down from $27,765 to $23,765.
A GT - 6 spd model w/ MSRP of $33,950 was listed this weekend at $29,950.

I was gonna get the Gt Package for 24k but i think i will get the Sports Package for 21k instead. I dont want to spend 3k for the leather seats, moonroof, and bose radio and i dont even care about the other small things.
The 21k is from a 27k price with a 6k rebate.
Opinions on if i should do this.

Hard to believe you had a 27k starting price. My car had a 35k starting price (US$).

very true .. you get the meat with the sport pkg: xenons and traction. That makes the car
i wuld consider touring for the moonroof .. thats not easy to put in if you ever want one .. check the cars with and without .. use it and decide
bose and the speakers arent all that for the additional price .. but im not sure if yo get the same audio controls on the stearing wheel without .. or if you were to upgrade your system if you can make them work
yeah and gt .. is just leather for the price .. in my opinion leather sucks unless its one of the best grades .. but it really doesnt do anything for the car .. unles you get the two tone for its appeal
where are you looking?

I recently received my new VR 2005 RX-8 GT w/spoiler from them (8/05 build with 11 miles):
$32040 MSRP (GT+Spoiler) - $8000 discount including MAC financing - $500 Zoom-Zoom Live rebate (contract date was 12/30) for a total of $23540 before SC tax and shipping. Document fees and temporary tags were around $80. The Autobarn arranged shipping through McNutt Auto Transport for $525 to South Carolina (~ 750miles).
Buying over the phone was a little scary, but the sales manager (Michael Korp) at Autobarn was very easy to work with and seems to be pretty knowledgeable about RX-7’s and 8’s. The car arrived exactly as promised - in perfect condition - and the whole experience was surprisingly painless. Aside from Jim Ellis Mazda in Atlanta who had similar deals when they were offering 25% off MSRP (but not the color combination/option package I was looking for), none of the dealers within a 300 mile radius could come anywhere close to this deal, even when given the opportunity to match it.
Thanks to everyone at rx8club who has posted about their buying experience (and Astral for the Zoom-zoom rebate!). It certainly helped in finding a good deal and recognizing when it was time to pull the trigger. Autobarn apparently has ~13 GT’s left (silver, black, titanium), and Michael said that they would offer similar deals to anyone from rx8club that was interested. Good luck to those still looking for a great deal - they are out there!

Question about the Tax Title and Licence though...
How did all of this work out with you? Did they do all of this paperwork? How did you pay the tax? Did they submit something for you so that you could pay whatever the local tax is?

Mine is on the way
I just made a deal with The Autobarn for one of these RX-8s, silver MT with the GT package and spoiler. All they have left are a few silver ones and a titanic gray that's priced at $33K.
The paperwork is being FedExed to me, and they'll ship the car to me in Dallas.
The dealer collects Texas sales tax (which seems really odd since the purchase is taking place in Illinois), so I'll just have to take the paperwork to the local tax office and get my Texas license tags and registration.
I'm financing half of the purchase so I can get the $1,250 MAC rebate, but I'll probably pay off the loan after a few months. So I'm getting a total of $9,250 off MSRP. I'll have to pay for shipping, but this still beats any deal I could get locally by at least $4,000.
Can't want until the car gets here.

Curly,
Unless you got some kind of deal that I'm unaware of, I called Autobarn and the $8000 off MSRP special INCLUDED the $1,000 MAC rebate. You're saying that they gave you $8000 off plus ANOTHER $1250 for MAC financing?
I think you may have misunderstood the deal they were giving you - check your paperwork when it comes...

No, there was no misunderstanding. I specifically asked if the $8k off included the MAC rebate, and they said no. It's $8K off MSRP, plus a $1,250 rebate for MAC financing. The paperwork faxed to me reflects the $9,250 off MSRP.
I think that $8k originally included $7K plus the MAC rebate, but they may have increased it since this promotion started.
When did you talk to them? Maybe it's changed since then, or maybe you spoke to someone who was misinformed.

This definitely destroys the resale value of the RX8 at this stage in it's depreciation. With deals like this come future consequences. This is two model years in a row now where the RX8 has desparately needed to be dished out to the public by knocking the price down to insane levels. The car basically cannot survive if this continues. I'm happy for those getting these wonderful deals, but I really hope they produce this car to meet it's demand, so this does not continue to happen. I'd almost give my left arm if I could find a deal like this on a 350z roadster, or a Honda S2000 though.

Well, the good news is that the number of cars being offered at these ridiculously low prices is pretty low. The Autobarn only had 15 to begin with, and with my purchase they're down to five or fewer.
I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and the best price on '05 models that any dealer around here is offering is $5k off MSRP, including the MAC rebate. That's pretty typical for well-equipped leftover models from the previous year.
So I don't think this relative handful of super-discounted prices will affect the nationwide resale market that much. Used 2004 models around here are still priced very high.

I suppose you are right. People are remaining stubborn in their price of a used 04 RX8, so that helps. Regardless, the RX8 is not an easy car to sell for top dollar. A quick sale either means a well below KBB price, and/or very good luck. I know I could sell my STI in a heartbeat for KBB, because the demand is just so high for that car used. I never imagined the market value would be better for my STI, then an RX8, but I guess limited number, and the fact that it's so powerful draws people in. I remember in July I got offered $1500 more on trade in for my STI that had an msrp of $3000 less then my RX8., but also had 8k more miles on it. That was disturbing, but the dealer simply told me that the RX8 will be considerably harder to sell, and he said he already knows someone who will buy my STI, so they were trying to talk me into it desparately. Never did, and I sold my RX8 privately to avoid too bad of a raping.
