*RANT* Dealer refuses Dealer to Dealer trade!

Yeah, so i was trying to use this COSTCO auto purchase program to purchase my(soon) 2006 rx8.

My story:

This, was the best car purchasing experience of my life...i called costco, they had a dealer call me back, i told them what i wanted, they searched the local inventory, found the car, quoteded me the price(300 over invoice) and told me that the car was up in so-and-so-ville and they'd have to trade for it. Then the dealer tells me he'll call and square away a dealer trade with the guy(as he has given this other dealer plenty of cars in the past) and call me back with the details on delivery and such.

At this point, i'm thrilled...i've been waiting for this car since last september.

Long story short, the dealer calls me back and tells me that he called the other dealership and that they REFUSED to give/trade him the car. Over the next couple days he makes some follow up phone calls and even tries to get the car through their sister dealership. But, all to no avail, the car's original dealer will not give it up! ASSES!

So now, i have to go directly to the dealer who has the car...which isn't in the COSTCO program and negotiate for the car and probably wither pay more than i would have, or not get the car...i feel like this guy is going to be a total dick about the deal.

Is it common for mazda dealers to refuse DtoD trades like this? In the past(honda, acura, audi) it was always so simple!

Have you tried negotiating directly with them yet, maybe it won't turn out as bad as you think it would.

Depends on the relationship between delearships. I have a friend that sells cars and he was telling me about something similar. He was trying to close a deal and he had to get a car from a fellow delearship, but the manage was being an *** and wouldn't let it happen. He also said that domestic delearships there's more "brotherly love" with these types of things amongst the domestic franchises as opposed to the imports. Sometimes the dealers screw their own kind. Who knows why.

Habit! Some guys will screw others around even if it isn't in their own best interests.

Are they sure the car is available? It might just be that its in stock but someone already has their name on it?

I bought my car back in April 2004 and paid less than the costco program... so given the incentives and whatnot mazda has put out on the rx-8, you should be able to get a better deal.
