04 Good Deal?

I am going in for a test drive on an 04 24K miles on it. It is from a CarMax dealer in Las Vegas. Do they publish the VIN on their sites? Does this look like a good deal or should I keep looking? Thanks.

Oh, any idea why they post as a 197HP on the manual? Just a typo?

Also, how can I tell if it is a late model vs early model 04 for the remaining warranty details?

Thanks.

They should have a link for vehicle history report when looking up the details on the car. Select that and it will give a brief report and include the vehicle VIN.

What is their price?

I don't see a link to the history report although it says the remaining warranty is for Balance of 3 Years or 50,000 Miles. Also the "no-haggle" price is below edmunds.com dealer retail of $23,277 (barely)....Do you guys know if you can negotiate on this "no-haggle" price??

Thanks.

Dude the last point mentiions is an automatic, I suggest you go for a manual, the 238hp version , and if you really want the automatic wait till the 06 model comes out. Its gonna have the 6port engine with 212bhp and a six speed automatic tranny.

And you can get a new 05 for about 25 out the door, if not less, something maybe to consider.

Hope this helps, good luck

Sorry. Actually, that info is not accurate. It really is a 6spd MT. I DONT want an AT...I'd rather have the control and power of a manual. Thanks for pointing that out though.

Why buy from someone who doesn't even know what the car is?

Thanks Macius8, didnt know there was a classifieds section. That looks like a good deal, I will ask him for pics.

DarkBrew: It's the damn CarMax site, their site updater was probably sleeping when he put that link in...but you're prob right. Im gonna test drive there to get a feel for the car (probably gonna love it) then buy elsewhere UNLESS he gives me a helluvadeal.

When you buy a used car, it all depends on what the dealership took it in for. About 80% of the times that dealerships put a vehicle in an ad, usually means that is the bottom line price of the car. Also ask them how long the vehicle has been on their lot. After 60 days most dealerships must pay "flooring" to the bank. if you go to KBB.com look up the trade in value of the car, thats usually what they took it in for. Add about $500 for recon. It all depends what they took it in, for all i can say is grind and grind.

'04 for $18,300- what to look for?

I'm buying an 04 with 36k miles, MT, Touring, for $18,300. Needs tires (or will in a few months) but is otherwise okay as far as I can tell. It was originally listed on eBay. The used car dealer (non-Mazda) has taken it to a Mazda dealer for tranny work- they may be replacing a gear or two under warranty. Any way I can tell when I pick up the car if the repair was done successfully? Also, I've been told to have the latest ECU "flash" done. Should I insist this be done now before I buy itr? Is the "flash" covered under warranty?
