'07 Eclipse GS to '08 40th Anniversary RX8
Howdy all, first post in the forums. Didn't see a "Welcome Newbies" thread, so I figured this would fit here?
Until recently, my wife and I had a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. Pretty unremarkable, but the gas was decent and the factory Rockford Fosgate system was alright as well.
To make a long story short, someone rear ended my wife while she was running errands a couple of weeks ago. As you can see, the car was damaged pretty badly, and our insurance ended up writing it off as a total loss.

No worries about my wife, she's OK aside from a fractured wrist, mild concussion, and some neck and back strain. The At-Fault driver's insurance as well as ours is taking care of everything.
The cool deal with the auto side of the insurance claim is that we ended up owing less than what we got as payment for the totaled Eclipse (thanks to my money-smart wife paying into the principle each month) and we ended up having 1500 to put as a down payment on this lovely 40th Anniversary RX-8 with 34,000 miles.

We're also pursuing punitive damages with a personal injury attorney due to the nature of the collision, so maybe when all is said and done we'll have a free RX-8 and then some? We're definitely looking into getting a daily driver to keep the RX-8 out of the snow and road salt during the winter.
This is our first foray into owning a rotary. We've known the basics of caring for them for a while now (Wife has always wanted an RX-8), but we were wondering about some of the specifics. I did some research and found this site, did some reading before making this post and It's great to see such really nice write-ups for new owners here.
Really eager to do some learning on this awesome, unique car...and maybe making a nice AutoX car somewhere down the line as well
Thanks for having us!

welcome aboard
I see you are listed as being at Dover AFB, De. We have a RX8 club subgroup of MD, DE, PA, and NJ owners that meet from time to time in different locals and fun events in each of these states. All having a variety of RX's. You should look up one of our group, "RXDad" here on the forum. He lives in Delaware. Like myself he has been an RX owner since the Seventies and has some vintage machines. I have owned seven rotary Mazdas since 1973, including currently own a 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8.
Welcome and drop a line to RXDad.

hey thanks for the warm welcome man! I am indeed in Dover AFB. It'd be great to meet up with other rotary fans.
definitely gonna drop RXDad a note, his collection and experience sounds pretty darn impressive. Sounds like you've had your fair share of Rotary experience too!
Looking forward to learning a great deal about our new vehicle here, thanks again!
