17 year old insurance help?

k so im DYING to buy a rx-8 and I WILL buy one in about 10 months hopefully , im saving about 1000 a month and thats about 90% of my monthly income seeing how i work full time and go to college.
The question, i was wondering how much insurance for a 2005 mazda rx-8 would be for a 17 year old male.
If possible could i get a rough quote if i put it under my parents name or other my name as primary driver.
thanks in advance guys RX-8 love

Well first we would need to know what state you live in. Second, you will get a better rate under your parents name. third, there is a whole thread on here that everyone mentions how much they pay for insurance, search for it

I would suggest going with wawanesa insurance they classify the car as a 4 door and go by displacement and its only 1.3L for a 17yr old probably still witha g2 I would expect about 200 a month go to www.kanetix.ca and do a quote, they will quote you with a bunch of companies.

My suggestion.

Don't. It's not that cheap.. and the gas is killer if you ever get a lesser source of income.

get a relatively low miles used car that can act reliably as just basic transportation while you are on college. after college when you have started in your career and paid your college debt THEN get a nice new car. by then there will be something even more spectacular to purchase and you will maybe have managed to save some money along the way. why spend the money on high insurance when you can spend it on booze and women while partying in college?

I would recommend that you get yourself a nice 2nd Gen RX-7, they can be found quite cheap and it will be a great introduction into the world of rotaries. It sounds like you will have a few grand saved up, and if you get a 1990 or 1991 model then the insurance should be pretty cheap since it's a 20 year old car.

Also, I would recommend that you save 50% of your income instead of 90%, and invest the rest in yourself via a retirement account or at least a savings account...

Better yet, don't spend your money on Booze and Women, and Parties while in College, and just get the best education that you can afford.

Women will come all on their own over the years, if you like women (just sayin').
Partying and alcohol are not only money sucks, but can suck away your health, too. Do too much of either one, and you can wind up doing something you might really regret in life.

Insurance for a sports car at age 17 is a no win situation.
You pay too much for it, and if you never have to use it, you just flushed it down the toilet. If you do have to use it, they force you to pay even more money.

If you want the car, buy it and enjoy it, and find the best insurance company you can that won't suck your wallet dry as badly as the others will.

I bought my car about 30 days before I turned 18, and with no accidents or tickets on my record, I'm on my parents insurance, with three cars, and full coverage on each, it's 310 per month with a 750 deductible. Geico, by the way.

Wow am I glad I am over 25... $120 a month with a 1k deductible and 50k life insurance with full coverage. Only one ticket in my life so far for 10 over.

Insurance threads are stupid though there are so many variables to consider its kinda pointless. Not only do you have to consider your age and where you live and work but you also have to think of what type of coverage you have. You never see people post what kind of $$ amount they are covered for per accident and person which can have a big effect on your rate.

Thats why you properly gear up & do track days

Can't count the number of times I feel like my track/autox experience (both moto & Car) has come in handy on the streets. . . like when your car accidentally gets sideways in the rain. You embrace it :]

I second this!
That's always been my excuse for "drifting" in parking lots and such, it really DOES allow you to get a better feel for the car.
As does AutoX :D

Yeah, there is that chance.
But, were your broken bones caused by your own stupidity, or that of someone else?

I've been riding bikes for 25 years now.
I had my left hip broken when a lady blew a stop sign just up the road from where i was living, as I was on my way to work, nearly 13 years ago.

I've now owned 7 other bikes since that accident.

Just because you get broken bones doesn't mean owning a bike is a bad thing.

i got my rx8 when i was 17. gas is killer, but it's manageable. i'm under my parents, full coverage and it's $600 every 6 months, so $100/month.

I don't want to get too far off topic, but I was a very safe rider, and when I wrecked I was fully geared up from head to toe. Long story short I was going around a turn and either gave it too much gas with the tires too cold, or I hit some gravel / debris in the road - I never found out exactly what the cause was. I turned the bike sideways and highsided which resulted in a broken collar bone and two broken wrist bones. I was only going 20-25mph.

Owning a bike isn't bad - I'd just prefer a cager and 4 wheels. Again - to the OP - my suggestion is buying an older RX-7, it was a great first car for me, and is a great way to get introduced to the community.

What insurance does your parents have? and how much did you have to pay monthly on the rx8 ?

My son just got his permit for driving and his only 16 yrs old. We are not planning yet to get him a car and a driver's license. We just wanted for him learn how to drive first until he is ready and could afford a car by himself. Here in Las Vegas, insurance is already sky rocketing, and if we add him to our insurance, it will get higher, and we may not afford to pay the monthly payments anymore. For now, were just teaching him how to drive and we let him drive sometimes when we go out.

I bought My 8 a week after I turned 18 (still 18 now) I pay around $500/month. I am not a secondary driver since I have 3 cars and 3 drivers in the house. Make sure this is something you can afford. Don't listen to people telling you to get a civic..
