2005 Price Suggestion
I am a new member to this forum. I have used it until now merely for research, but I was hoping to get help on my first new car purchase. I have an out the door price of 28750 for an AT with GT Package, Appearance Package, Rear Spoiler, Moonroof wind deflector. My question is wether or not this is a competive price? Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, but you simply did not provide enough detail for anyone to accurately judge your out-the-door price.
Is that out-the-door car price or does it also include Tax, Tags and License/Registration?
Are there any other options besides the ones listed above?
Here is my suggested metric - since taxes and registration vary from location to location cite your discount off MSRP for car-only. Folks have reported $2000 to $6000 off MSRP on 2005s (pre-tax, pre-tags, pre-registration). Read the past few months of threads in this sub-forum and see what regional data points you can pick up.

For the same price you got quoted +/- 3 or 4 hundred, I got a 6speed Manual with the GT package, leather, sunroof, spoiler, and appearance package.
If you are going to pay that much, demand the 6speed manual version because its true, a 6MT is so much more fun. (and i didnt know how to drive a stick except for a week before i bought the new car)

I was able to snag an 2005 manual GT (built in september of 05) with a rear spoiler as the only extra option for $25,000. The dealer was offering $7,000 off of MSRP due to Mazda shipping to many 8s to the US. Hope this helps.

The price I was quoted was after Tax, Title, and Registration. Thanks for all the information. I am planning on returning to the dealer in January to get the price lower (hopefully 26000). Any suggestions on ways to negotiate a lower price?

I would recommend one of two things when working with a dealer. For one, research what other dealers in the area are offering and also find the cheapest price being offered anywhere. Secondly, set a price that you are willing to pay and don't budge. The dealer will be willing to sell the car cheaper than the out the door price, you just have to be stubborn. It may take longer, but in the end it will be well worth it.
Good Luck!!

I have a little bit more information on the car I am considering. It has a little over 100 miles that are mostly from test drives I assume. And since I am living in CO, there is probably not a huge demand for a sports car in the winter. Would it be better to try and get year end/month end deals than waiting until January? I don't need the car in a terrible hurry, but I don't want too many more test drive miles put on it. I had a friend suggest that if I wait until after the new year, I can claim that the car is a 'year' old now (except that no 2006 models are out --MY is confusing).

I would be careful with purchasing a new car with that many miles. There is no way those miles are from test drives....they are probably from a dealer trade. A good friend of mine who used to work at a car dealer said not to touch any new cars with over 50 miles on them. He said that the employees beat the crap out of the cars when moving them from one dealer to another. Hope this helps.

100 miles is not outrageous or a danger sign. A car with 3 miles on the odometer could have been moved back and forth across the dealer lot 20 times and flooded 10 times. If I remember right, new (never titled) cars can be returned to the factory if they have less than 500 miles (a friend of mine did this with his Saturn SL1).

Our local giant, all-brands, mega-dealership (Simmon-Rockwell) uses dedicated drivers just to trade between their lots that are 5 to 35 miles apart. They don't use the salesmen. I had them trade a car from the next town for me so I could test drive it during my lunch and the salesman brought up how we'd have to wait for one of the staff drivers to make the swap. I was curious so I inquired about them. He replied they're all 'fossils', not quick about anything, but there had never been even a single complaint of abuse or damage.
endolinz, you can try to get better price based on 100 miles on the odometer, but I wouldn't bet on it. Dealerships give discounts on their 'dealer demos' that have 3,000 miles, not cars that have merely been test-driven a few times.
I would say if you can get a bit below invoice for a never-titled car with full warrenty you're getting a fine deal.
I would also suggest that the dealership will be more interested in moving the car right before the end of the year to get it on this year's books. I don't think they'll be in a hurry to drop the price on Jan 1 due to the 'extra year' because that age may really depend on when the received the car rather than passing Jan 1.
