2006, 7100 miles, GT package, deal or no deal

Hello,

I am looking at purchasing a 2006 rx-8 GT with 7,100 miles. It is gray with the black interior, special keyless remote entry system, moonroof, and bose audio system. I chipped them away to 22,000 before tax and title fees. They won't move anymore on the pice...Is this a good deal, or should I wait?

Check out edmunds.com's True Market Price calculator. That will let you know if it is a good deal or not.

Well, i didn't get the car, mostly because of the dealer. Im young, only 17 years old, so it is a process buying a car with my parents. I am paying most of it, (13k+), but my parents are helping me out a bit. All I can say is that the dealership I went to (Shaumburg Napelton Mazda in Illinois) made us not buy the car. Me and my dad visited the dealer twice, before bringing my mom, (and money) to buy the car. I guess the dealership had a lead on someone else interested in buying the car that night, and for more money, so they treated us like ****. They wouldn't let us test drive the car (Yes, they refused to let us drive their "High performance vehicle" before we signed the papers. I looked at the guy, and asked him if he did the same thing with the Mazdaspeed6, and he said no... That was the GM of the dealership, but our specific dealer knew absolutly nothing about the car. I read up on maintenece, and everything about the car for a good three months, and I suprised him with all of the information I knew. He had no clue about the recall, no clue about anything really, all he told me was that he was "trying to learn more about the rotary." Anyways, we went on Monday (Columbus day) and all of the banks were closed. Despite the attitude of the GM and our dealer, we still wanted to take the car. It was very very dirty, and we wanted it detailed, and my dad wanted a guy to show me all of the buttons ect. I also had to go to work in 15 min, and my parents dont know how to drive stick, so my dad wanted to put down a deposite, and come back the next day to take possesion of the car. The man refused to take a deposite, and wanted the money in full at that moment. Of course we didn't have that much in the checking book we brought, so we had to leave with the car still sitting on the lot. The car was sold the next day, someone who bought the car for $1,500 more and financed it ($$ to the dealership). Anyways, I later found out from another mazda dealer that that specific car was used on the road for the "Mazda Zoom Zoom Live" events. I could just picture all of the noobies trying to drive stick on the track, ruining the clutch + tranny. I am partially glad that the car sold, because it wasn't my #1 color choice, and I found out more about the car itself, but I won't find that deal again. I can't find any other 2006 with low miles for around that price, but what are you going to do. The dealership treated us like ****; they even said (Since you are buying a used car, we just have to give you the manual and you can leave). My parents never experienced a dealership like this before, where you are buying a $24,000 used car after tax, and yet you get treated like dirt. I know that if I went back there with a problem, that dealership wouldn't help me at all.
All in all, the car was in great condition, but the dealership made us pass on the deal. They treated us like garbage, and I rather spend more money at a dealership that actually knows about the car, and treats customers the way they should be treated. I have nothing against mazda, my dad has been driving the milliniaS for over 8 years, but it was a terrible experience. I hope I can find another car before the Chicago winter hits in, but I'm looking ever day on every website, but still no luck.
Thanks for all of the input, and I will still be looking at rx8club.com daily

That's too bad. It probably was a blessing in disguise. You'll find one soon enough. For a 17 year old, you seemed mature and well informed. Good luck.

Thanks I researched an endless amount of cars before making my mind up on the rx-8. I have been looking at this site for more than 5+ months, making sure that when I do buy this car, I will know how to maintain it. I have been to a couple of Chicago Rx-8 meets, and been to the Mazda Zoom Zoom Live, and I just can't get enough of the car. I checked out new 2006 Rx-8's at a local dealer (He had 30 rx-8's, including 18 shinkas!), but it was just too much money. I will share this car with my dad, once I teach him stick, and I'm sure it will be a blast. I hope I can find one soon

Wow, sounds somewhat like my dealer. My salesperson wasn't even from Mazda, he was a Saturn guy who didn't know anything at all (in all fairness he was one of the nicest salesmen I have met to this day!). If there's no super rush, wait untill the 07 calender year. Once January comes you'll be able to pick up an 06 for much less, thats exactly what I did with my new 05 back in jan (Jan 10th 2006 8:47pm! :D )

Yeah wait until January or late December are the best time. I mean with Late december they have to pump out sales so they make their quota. And if the sale of that car is going to help them there then they will try their best to make the sale.
