This is my first post.
I should be getting a 05 RX8 as soon as I get a good deal. It has been hard to find good offers because most of the dealers arround my area are a little reluctant to work on cars that are not in the lot.
My first offers for a 05 RX8 MT GT package was about 1000 over invoice but I have manage to get it to about 200 over invoice (or at least that is what they say) to a final price of 29500 (plus state tax and tag). Do you guys think it is a fair offer or I could do much better somewhere else. I know could get a much better price for a 2004 but I have decided to go with the 2005 instead.

I think that is a great offer and you should take it. I got the same deal 2 months ago for an 04.

Hey topq, what a pleasure it is to see a guy ask this question BEFORE buying. I don't know how many guys come here on their first post like "I just paid $33K for a base model, but I got undercoating for only $500. Was that a great deal or what?" Then we have to let them down not-too-gently. You're gonna be a welcome addition to this group!

That doesn't sound right to me. I paid just under 30k for my 2004 in April, and it was with the GT and Navigation. Right now people are able to buy 1-2k under invoice for a 2004 model, maybe lower if the lease incentives are still available.

Somewhere around 28,000 range sounds more correct. I wouldn't pay a grand over invoice on a 2005 when it has nothing new over the 2004 which are going cheap.

it's not bad.. if it's out the door. and... ya.. go for 05. white.. one.. (that's nice..) if u are not going to buy white.. try to save some money man.. 05 and 04 do not got a big different..

go for the 04! Unless you REALLY need the switchblade key or white!

The only difference in 04 to 05 is resale value. No matter what way you look at it, it's newer. Potentially you might be able to make up for the shortfall @ purchase by getting a few more dollars out of it when u sell it a couple years down the road. If it is a car you will either run into the ground, or simply keep for collection purposes, i'd go for the 04. That's just an idea.

Far as we know, you'll be able to buy the new key for the 2004 models. It's under $30 for the key itself, and about $80 for the fob.

While the 2005 will help with resale, if you're able to get $2,000 off the price, you may as well enjoy your savings now, than later if you decide to sell the car.

With buying the 04 comes a price. Yes, the deals are incredible, but you lose a lot of it. Once the year ends, the 04 model's value will take a dive, and even though your car may only be a few months old, in the market value it's a year old. By buying an 05, you get most of the value back by paying more. However, if you plan on driving car into ground for 7-8 years, just get the 04. Finding an 05 model near invoice is about as good as a price as getting an 04 model for 1-2k below invoice. That is the exact reason the 04 models are selling for so cheap. They have lost their value, and although it doesn't show up yet in KBB and other market values, come January you will see a depreciation.

The reason I was considering the 2005 instead of the 2004 is because the few cars that match my description arround this area (200 miles radius) have been put to good use in the dealerships (based on the odometers) or have early build dates. After reading the proper way of breaking in an engine I would be reluctant to buy the cars that I have been test driving since I pushed those cars to the edge and I wonder just how hard they were pushed by the other guys as well. If I could find a really new 04, I would have no problem buying it but by this time those are hard to find.

Pricing for '05 (S-PLan) is $24817 for MT, $3656 for 1GT plus $520 for destination totals $28993. So $29500 is pretty good ($507 over invoice)

MSRP for the same car is $31645.

When I made my deal (nearly a month ago) for an '04 the dealer said he could probably do $100 or $200 over invoice for an '05 (that was without negotiating). I think with negotiation, invoice is possible, depending on whether it is ordered from Mazda or purchased straight off the lot on delivery.
EDIT: Of course this all varies based on location and the dealer kickbacks.. I am in Tampa Florida if that helps you get a feel for regional differences...

i guess it depends on timing and research. i played different dealerships against each other and bought my 04 manual touring for 26,300 in august. do your research, know the costs, and take that number to another dealership

I bought my 2005 White GT 6 speed for $28995 but out the door at $29192 which also included the college incentive.

An 04 with M flash is mechanically the same as an 05, so if that's your only concern (not depreciation or color), go for the 04.
