325 miles on a 'new ' car?
#3
you really dont want an 8 with 325 miles on it. It was probally used as a demo car and has had the crap beat out of it on all the test drives. I would talk to your local dealer and see if they can find you one or how long it will take to order you one exactly how you like it.

It could be that the dealer did a trade with another dealer for the car and rather than transport it they decided to drive it, or they used it as a demo, which may mean it has some "hard" miles on it. Ask the dealer, see if they give you a song and a dance, or if they are honest with you, it does not hurt to ask the question. If it is not Nordic Green or Titanium, see if you can order one, or if they have an '06 coming in that meets the same specs.
It is not common to find one that has quite that many miles on it, most usually are not test driven that much before leaving the dealers lot, like mine for example, it had 6 miles on it when I first got in it.

I bought one in August with about that milage on it. It was an '04 pretty much exactly like I wanted it. However the next day I went over it with a fine toothed comb and found 20 individual defects on the body and under the hood. I returned the car and wrote a letter to Mazda, because the dealer did not disclose the damage to me. Mazda couldn't care less. I still want an RX-8, but after this ordeal, and the crappiness of the Bose sound system, I am reconsidering.

Just think of 325 of the hardest miles a car could possibly have and that's pretty close to what you've got. If you can live with that then go ahead ask for a discount and buy. Otherwise steer clear of any "new" car that has more than a few miles on it.
It may be a little pessimistic. but if you're wrong, you would have gotten a fantastic deal.. If you're right.. then you knew what you were getting yourself into anyway...

I bought a demo Miata w/700 miles on in and drove that thing for 6 years with no issues at all. I wouldn't let the milage worry you as much as the state of the car. If it is clean w/no defects, then go for it. If not, then look around for a new one.
Scraper,
Do a search on here for how people have fixed/upgraded the bose system. Personally I don't mind it, as I have a Sirius portable unit I plug in and it sounds great to me.

Stuck in a love triangle
I say that if a car's got more than 12 miles on it, it has probably been through a test drive...or in a more cynical sense, it's already been broken in for you. :D There's probably a good 95% chance that any car that has been taken out by a customer has already been to hell and back. And why shouldn't they be? People prepared to spend thousands on machinery should get to preview what they're buying. But dealerships should do all that only on select cars on the lot. Instead, they let people test drive any car there (at least that's my experience at all the dealerships I've ever been to).
If you really want a "brand new" car...in the literal sense...you're going to want one that hasn't even finished being unwrapped.
I would personally go with the 325 mile one and try to squeeze them a bit. Don't be surprised if they don't bend. Yeah, it's extremely likely that this car has already been pre-raped, but we're not talking about a Maserati here either.

Pre-raped is a possibility but a rather harsh term... let's look at an optimistic view: Maybe it was the manager's perk and used it for his daily drive for a couple of weeks. Being that it is his 8th perk daily driver RX8 and after beating on a MS miata a couple months back, he treated it like is own because he care's about the condition a customer will receive it in. tehee

i had 1 mile on mine. So basicaly pulling it off the assembly line, onto the truck, off the truck, onto the boat, off the boat, onto the truck, off the truck, onto the lot.
I did the test drives in a diffent car, and did hammer the crap out of it. Then I took mine for a quick 6 mile trip just before signing, you know....to road test everything, radio, windows, all the gears, ect. It was the easyest drive ive ever taken....lol, so were the next 2k miles.
So my warrenty ends 50007 since thats how much it had when i signed.
Its all up to you, if you want to do it, go for it....but unless its some super special deal, you could keep looking and get a new'er one. IMO

a little late here, but :
My friend bought a 03 Evo with 1800 miles on it, it was a display car at Epcot, and then was a show car at different dealers. Im sure those miles were pretty hard on it. Of course she was an idiot, she only changed the oil 3 times in 43K miles....what a tool.

I would say that even an RX-8 which shows 1 mile on the odometer (and thus no test-drives) could have been flooded 6 times getting on and off the boat, on and off the truck and moving around the dealer lot. However, neither that nor 325 miles make it a stained glass window with a rock thrown through it.
RX-8s are covered by a 50,000 mile warrenty.
I'm getting a new cat, the damaged hose replaced and my brake rotors resurfaced and painted all completely free. Mazda is making good on my concerns.
Check for the obvious things - visually inspect for damage, get the service record for the car from the dealer (check for replaced spark plugs - a sure sign of flooding) and get a CarFax report.
My brand new RX-8 actually had a carfax report which showed it being serviced at two different dealerships, but never titled. For $26 I didn't have to trust the dealership to know/tell the truth about that.

I had no choice but to buy my titanium grey with 410 miles on it.
Because that dealer was only place to finance my car.
What could I do? I was 20 and had good credit but no income.
I went ahead and bought it, now with almost 30,000 miles on the car no problem what soever. I didn't have M flash, but never flooded, and i actually think i have close to 190whp as I was able to keep up with most s2000's.
If you really like the car, go for it.

I have a friend who used to drive cars for dealers... he beat the hell out of every car he drove, even the Del Slow. 300 miles means that car has been redlined a shitload. I'd put money on it.

Another unusual sort of dealer-driver story - I did argue a dealer into letting me drive my own trade once because they were going to nail me with a $150 fee. My wife and I drove new car "a" ~300 miles to exchange for new car "b" which would become our own.
