40K for a RX8!?!?

hey guys, I finally decided to join the cult, I went to my local dealership to search for the"one" RX8 with all the options and everything that I wanted, well good news is I found it! Brilliant Black, 6MT, loaded, leather, appearance package, sunroof, everything! the bad news is teh sticker was 40k!! its not even a shinka! after searchin the forums this seems like WAAAY too much, especially considering the 06's are just around the corner. I also checked kelley blue book, and it seems like the price should be more in the low 30's, how far do you think I can work them down to?? I want this one but I will not pay 40k

an RX8 with EVERY POSSIBLE option could get upwards of $40k.

the sticker on mine was $31,100, and that was with the Grand Touring package only. That did not include (and this is off the top of my head) a spoiler, front air dam, front splash guards, side aero flares, rear aero flares, side strakes, front and rear rotary emblems, door guards, B-pillar overlays, MP3 player, etc. you theoretically could get a very expensive RX8 with every option that Mazda offers.

Well I bought my '05 last year(Oct). It has everything except navi system. The sticker price was $33,490.00(an additional $500 was for a special gold accent pkg.) I was able to negotiate and walked out paying roughly $30,000.00(tax,title,license included) I thought it was a good deal considering the '05's had just come out and I didn't have a lot of "wiggle room" and had no rebates or incentives. I could have opted for an '04 for less but specifically wanted to get an "05.
I can't imagine whay they would be asking $40k for an '05 since the '06 models will be released soon.. Check mazdausa.com for other pricing and availability in your area.

Thanks guys, Yeah the RX8 in question had :appearance package( front, side, rear aero flares,) spoiler, strakes, rotary accent package, chrome OEM wheels, leather, sun/moon roof(whichever it is), 6CD changer, door edge sill protector thingies, exhaust finishers, heated seats and mirrors I believe, tint, and come to think of it it didn't have NAV, B-pillar, or MP3 either, I would have expected maybe 30K possibly 32ish but not 40K!! JEBUS!! another questions;if this 8 did sell to someone else(doubt it for 40K but....) I could still go with another 8 and have the dealer install the options i want right??,

It always costs more to add on OEM later than it does to get it factory installed. You have a lot of nice extras on that car and I can see that being priced around $35k-36k. Taxes etc and you're over 40.

In my opinion you should contact a fleet company and bypass all the salesman bs.

Was this a "new" vehicle? Do you know the mileage on the odometer?

Yes you could get a GT 8 and have them add the stuff you want. However dealer prices on stuff like appearence pkg, spoliers, tint etc.(AND LABOR). can get expensive. You may want to consider doing some of these modifications yourself. There are alot of vendors here that can get you the same mods at discounted prices and you'll have more variety of choices and maybe save alittle money. Many members here have got base 8's and modded them themselves.

I believe the best way to buy a car any car is to go to cosumers wholesale price list and then negotiate, but i learned a short cut go to carsdirect.com they are usually the cheapest put in your info like you were buying from them they will give you the must cheapest ad price, but they don't have a lot, so they buy from your local dealers,so that means you can take your cheapest ad price to a dealer near you and ask them to beat it vuala you got the best deal you can get with out knowing someone and with out waisting your time or his. you will end up paying about $1,000 more than whole sale P.S.make sure you put all options, exactly how you want the car so you don't have to guest pricing for other option

Hey, I'm new here, but i've been an RX-8 obsesser, ever scince i saw one in the maxims when they were new. I'm 20 years old, living in the nwt, canada, and I am trying to take over payments right now on a 04 6-mt red fully loaded. i'll end up paying 32,000 canadian... which figures out to be like what... 200 bucks U.S.? hahaha... i know it still seems like alot, but the thing is, it only has 5000 kms on it and was only driven for 2 months. new it was 46,000 canadian. Saving 14 g's on a car that hasn't even been broken in. i don't need a new one.... hey I AM ONLY 20! so now i'm working my *** off at 2 jobs and going to tech school, but atleast i'll have the nicest car around..... I'm going to cry tears of joy when the paper work is done. And then i'm probably gonna sleep in it for the first month. I can already guess what the insurance is gonna do to me.

I got a new 05 6speed in may, its has just the Touring package, sticker was 30,500, I got it for 26,500 out the door. (car, tax, title, ect......)

I thought it was a great deal, I used the mazda S plan and then got them down a little more. I was very happy as I was looking at spending 28k total on a new car....so I was able to get a little lower monthly payment than I had originaly planned. The total of my trade-in and down payment was 10k, and I got a total of 1500 in rebates (GMAC and Mazda loyalty bonus. Since this was the first car i bought myself (last car was co-signed with my dad) I did get raped a little with the interest rate. But I plan to refinance in a year or so. I do have a pretty good credit score already so it wasnt to bad.

EDIT: I got them to sell me the car at 26,500 with tax and everything, then i told them I had a trade in they wanted to give me 3k for it, I got them up to 7k, then said I would give them an additional 3k down payment, making my total down 10k, we got all the paperwork drawn up for the deal at 16,500 to finance, then the guy totalyed let it slip about the GMAC and Owner loyalty....so I said I want that and if they dont want to give it to me, Ill walk out right now....so i got it to, and that got me to 15k + finance charges and I walked away happy.

Im still not quite sure how I got all of it....but I just stayed strong, and wouldnt take no for an awnser, since i didnt need the car, and was happy with my current car, i didnt have to but that day...so I just stuck to my guns and ended up getting what I wanted. Woohoo.

I would buy a used one - most of them drive better with 5,000 miles than when they are new. In fact, I'll sell you mine for $28K...OK, how about $27? Do I hear $26?
I would not buy this car new if I had to do it again, the used price is way below what most of us paid new. My sticker was about $31,500 (I got everything but the NAV and ground effects from the factory) and I think I paid $29,700 or something.
It seems like they really add the mark-up on the dealer installed stuff. I would at least buy the car without any of that and install what you want at a later date.

I have an 05 Base, with spoiler, appearance, and some other stuff. With tax title license, extended warrenty, GAP, something for the paint for 33k I think. I was smitten by the test drive and didn't get the best deal (probably paid 2-3k to much), but really I don't care I absolutly love the car. But a plus was when I got in to test drive it I believe it less that 12miles on it.

For almost all cars except the luxury brands and the "New hot" vehicles you should be able to get invoice or below. Just research it on KBB.com or edmunds and contact dealers over the internet to get your price.

I got my Shinka "Base" (means just Shinka and nothing else) for 28400. Sticker price was 33000 I think ?

It was pretty funny actually, first I got it down to 30,400, but they "said" they have 2K rebates if I fin . thru MAC (Mazda America Credit) so ok. another 2K off.

so its 28400. :-) (But in the end is that, they made the mistake, oh well, not my fault)

I could've got it even lower, but oh well, I think this is reasonable.

sOmething to keep in mind when you go into a dealer.

You dont need carsdirect or whatever to get you a lower price, if they can get it at that price, you can. To them (the dealers) , they never expect you to "come back for another car", serious.

What you have is TIME and MONEY. Time IS important to them because the faster the better (selling cars).

I found that it works best to walk into a dealer when they are about to "CLOSED". So just walk in, and like "Hey look, I want "this car"(check it on mazdausa.com for the one u want first), and I will only pay xx,xxx"

the xx,xxx is the tricky part, If you're willing to pay 30,000, dont tell them 30,000, and try to find out whats the "wholesale" price for the car u want. Lets say my Shinka rx-8 is around 28,625. So go in and like "I only want to pay 29,000, I know you guys have 625 bucks of Dealer holdbacks (it should be, I might be wrong)"

When you say stuff like "I know you have XXXXX of dealer holdback" They will cut the bullshit and just try to work with the numbers, because they know that you "did" your homework before you walk into the dealers.

Just ALWAYS remember, its your money, and you have the time.

Most dealers can do BELOW INVOICE, dont let them "stun" you when they try to show you "oh heres what we paid for the car, we cant do anything lower than that."

but most likely if you talk about "dealer holdback" and stuff, they wont bother to show you those "invoice numbers" anymore.

Might be a lil confusing post because Im too lazy to edit it :-)

I highly recommend you (and anyone else in the market for a new car) check out carbuyingtips.com. Make sure you read everything--it's worth it!

Try not to fall totally in love with it until you've got the right price.

I would also recommend you pretty much disregard MSRP. Start at wholesale price and work up from their not down from MSRP.

I've had mine almost a year

I was able to get my '04 8 in October of '04 for $27,800 (MSRP was 34,210) There was a lease credit for $2500 after I got the dealer down to his best price ($30,300). I still walked away thinking I could have done better. But $6410 down from MSRP isn't bad. (It had 93 miles on it when I drove it off the lot).

Moral of the story check to see if there is a way to take advantage of Mazda specials because they can be subtracted after you get the dealer down on his price. They aren't dealer incentives they are Mazda incentives.
