40th Anniversary RX-8 @ Dealership in San Gabriel Valley
Was at the Mazda dealer this am getting my car serviced and saw this in the show room. It was an automatic, no navi, but had remote start. The one odd thing I noticed is that the front doors don't shut very easily unless you really slam them.
Check out the price tag on it and then have a nice chuckle.
The wheels & 40th emblem are nice, and the silver & black engine cover looked cool also. The quality of the leather seats are really nice. Puts the black & red leather in my 6MT-GT to shame. But, the color was just this weird orange-red that wasn't exactly a good fit for the car. If the exterior had been black, red, or orange, then the seats would've been nice. But, with the Metropolitan Gray- ugh, I really couldn't say that it matches.

oh yah. i forgot to mention it, but the calipers on the car are pre-painted silver and also look very nice. again, if this car were black, red, or orange (and 6-mt) then it would be very desirable- because of the subtle add-ons. but the gray is just very non-exciting. what a total waste of those awesome seats.

Actually the gray is very exciting. Its hard to judge it from pictures or possibley indoors but the paint job in the light takes on a blue/green look to it not a gray, and I'd have to disagree with the seats not matching the car as they go together perfectly. As far as the price....that is way to high, I got into mine for ~32 about a couple hundred higher than the GT models.
Anyway just my $.02

Funny that you mention the doors. I noticed exactly the same thing with a 40th anniversary model that was sitting in a showroom in Seattle. Both the driver and passenger side door kept refusing to completely close unless slammed.

Limited edition or not, you shouldn't be paying anywhere near sticker for this car. The 8 is not popular among the masses. Just seeing that price would be enough to make me never set foot in that dealership again. They are obviously on crack. Geez, I got a price on the 40th that was about 3,500 under sticker.
...And where is the factory sticker on that car?

Just test drove a 40th today(in Georgia), and funny enough, you had to slam the door on this one also... But they were going to let it out the door for 31500(6spd). So decisions, decisions....keep my 04, get the 40th, or wait till the 09's come out??

I have the same dilemma. Did the 40th feel any different driving it?...I might test one just for the hell of it but I'll wait for the '09s and that will tide me over until the 16x comes out. Of course I already asked a dealer around here about '09s and as I expected, they had no clue...about the changes or when they would start getting them. I swear they should make you pass a test that shows you know everything about the cars you sell before they let you be a salesman.

The only differences in the 40th was: The clutch seemed super light and the car on a whole was just a lot tighter than mine. But then again mine has had four years and 39k to loosen up.
The service guy did tell me though that an RX8 tech and a class he was teaching took several 08s out and did everything possible to try to flood them out, but were unsuccessful. So since mine is about to go out of warranty, maybe I will think more about the 40th.

Actually that is perfectly normal, I don't know why but every brand new 8 I have seen has done that. After it's been at the lot a while and been opened/closed a few times it doesn't do it. But they all do when they are first delivered...

i would most def. have to agree!!! because it sounds like mazda aint doing **** to fix any of its real problems, instead to put it off by adding these little 40th anniv. shitty badges and upgrade to 19's, instead of really taking care of all the mechanical problems that it "HAD" and for alot of us 8 owners still "HAVE" this is some bullshit why dont they leave the appearce alone and concentrate on the real problem at hand..the machanics of the car itself, why dont they try getting that right for the 40th anniv. instead of introducing new colors of seats and other worthless ****.

Keep in mind the weather stripping as well as the locking mechanisms on these are are brand spanking new. They didn't start production until October or November of last year. They are tight because they have not had the time to be broken in. Most of our cars were massed produced, checked over time and again and moved around alot. These were made to order to a point.
