Add accessories at purchase?
Most of you may know this, but it can pay to add any planned accessories at the time of purchase so they are listed on your sales invoice. This way, they are covered by the 4-year 50,000 mile warranty. If you buy them the next day, the warranty on the accessories in only 12 months 12,000 miles, even if your dealer installs them. It will have to be each owner's decision whether you save enough money buying accessories yourself (from Trussville, for example) to offset any gain you have with the full factory warranty.

Does this mean you have to order the accessories with the car on delivery? I mean, I'm looking for something specific from a nearby Mazda dealer, but the sales associate told me that they won't be able to get one that meets my requirements in unless they can get one from another dealer or have it available at the time. I dont' know if this person is BSing with me or not...

Optimus -- My dealer didn't have the wheels, CD changer, or mudguards at the time, but they added them to my sales invoice at the time of purchase to get the better warranty, then installed them for nothing when they came in.

I was lucky to find another titanium grey in KC with the rear wing and CD changer without having to wait for the dealer to order them. I do have a laudry list of accessories on the way, but I had all of the ones needing installation included on my invoice.

I ordered the rear spoiler at purchase 8/30/03.
Still waiting
The dealer says that it is on "National Backorder" w/ no ETA.
I wonder how important the dealer considers our "add-on" accessories at their expense???
They will promise you anything to make the sale
If you call your parts dept; they will tell you they can have it in 2-3 days!! HA HA HA
They will take yor money for the order then tell you three days later that it's on "National Backorder"
Wait Wait Wait............................

Of course a dealer will tell you what you want to hear to make a sale... they're in business to sell cars, not to tell people to wait. Realistically, though, if you have a backordered part, it's in a dealer's best interest to get you your part as quick as possible, that way you are (from their perspective) out of their hair.
Still it is in your best interest to get any accessories right at the time of purchase and have them included on your purchase order, even if they are backordered, so that you get the 48 month /50,000 mile warranty.

I would think that if they promise you a part, and do not deliver in a reasonable amount of time...2-3 months max? Then they are liable for neglect, due to collecting your money and not delivering the good agreed upon, especially when they tell you 2-3 days.
