Additional Dealer Mark-up???

Just took a 2nd test drive on a loaded '05 Titanium that the dealer has a $2500 ADM tacked onto for a grand total of 37,900. Can we expect him to peel that $2500 off before we even start negotiations? I haven't seen anything about ADM on here - he has it on every car on the lot, not just RX8's.

Angry ADM = Additional Dealer Markup

Haven't seen anything on here about people getting hit with Additional Dealer Markup. Is that just an Oregon thing? I won't even discuss it with the dealer. It has to come off before I'll even start negotiating. Is this reasonable? :

You shouldn't pay much over invoice on an 8. Some people have gotten below invoice. Search the forum for S-plan, that will show you the invoice. Use kbb.com, edmunds.com to get the same information.

Dealers love to tack on so many things on top of the sticker, like documentation fees, credit check fee, adminsitration fees. They are all a load of crap.

Pay for
1) Car (go by invoice).
2) Destination
3) Tax, Tags, Registration

I looked at an 8 today and the dealer had a sucker sticker on it that added an ATM and the "wax" job. I doubt that I go back there to deal. There are plenty of RX8's on the lots in my area.

One of the dealers I was talking to, was charging an 1195 addendum, which is another word for dealer fees.

what are you in Canada?

even with the 2500 taken off you shouldn't spend more then 31K on a fully loaded 8 unless they've added TONS of stuff to it (ie MS kit, and more)

Never pay "ADM." Period. It really stands for "arrogant dealer markup." Walk if they refuse to take it right off the top, regardless of whether it's a 2005 or 2004.

Thanks to all of you!

I'm a more confident shopper now. Is there a website where I can enter a VIN number and find out what the dealer paid for the car? I've been in KBB, Carsdirect, and a few others, and unless I'm not looking in the right places, I'm only finding generic info. I have the VIN and I want to know how much they paid for this particular car!

MSN Auto shows MSRP and invoice side-by-side. Right down to each option. Go to their page, select the car you want from the pull down boxes on the left, choose "Get More Information" and then click the "Pricing" tab. Pretty helpful info.

FWIW, I bought my '8 a month ago. It's an 04 leftover. MSRP was $29,440. I bought it for $26,130.

Thank you - I just tried that and found just what I was looking for. I think I'm ready to go make an offer next week. I'll be back here with photos... thanks again to all of you who have offered info. I almost made a costly mistake! :p

its a scam, pure and simple. I would mark that dealer off my list.

Go to the following site which explains it well:

When he tells you that be like, "Are you kidding?"

I love when they say, "You know I'm not making any money on this deal"
because -
1. yes they are, they wouldn't make the deal if they weren't
2. why do I care?
