American Express debit card from Mazda

I called Mazda today to confirm that they have recieved my letter. I was told yes, and that in about a week my car VIN would be flagged for the free service. Then in a few weeks I would see a $500 American Express debit card. American Express?

I don't see a problem, frankly. If a particular retailler doesn't accept the Amex debit card, then use whatever means you normally use at that store, and use the Amex at the next store.

Buy all your groceries with it - you'd be hard-pressed to find a supermarket that doesn't take Amex - and use the cash you save there for whatever it was that you wanted elsewhere.

It's not like you're getting a card that you'll never be able to use.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like whining for the sake of whining.

Sorry, but I'm not really trying to whine. I am just curious if any one else has heard the same thing or not.

No, this is the first time I've heard a particular card type mentioned. Thanks for the info. I'm sure you'll find someplace to use it.

We noticed that you edited your post, taking out that you thought you would never be able to use an American Express Card....implying that Mazda is trying to screw us.

That, my friend, is WHINING. :D

Debit Card

Maybe they don't even know what the card will be....when I called the 800 number and spoke to Mazda they said it would be a MasterCard debit card....guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think in any way that Mazda is trying to screw anyone. Never said that, never thought it. The $500 comes out of there pocket no matter how it's issued. As for the edit to my post, yes, I took out part of it where I commented on AMEX not being as widely accepted. The reason I took that out is that it was drawing lots of attention, and it wasn't the purpose of the post. Can we all just relax a little now? Maybe a hug from our RX-8s would help.

Let's get this thread back on track...

I called the 800 number to verify they've received my settlement acceptance letter. I was told they received it on Sept. 5, and I should be receiving two cards -- one for the free maintenance and the $500 debit card -- in separate mailings in early October.

I was told the same thing as jtimbck. Brand of debit card not mentioned and a separate card that can be swiped at any Mazda dealer for the free maintenance.
