Anyone try AAA discount?

A dealer in my area is listing as participating in the AAA discount program. Does anyone know how this works, and have you used it to purchase a vehicle?

All I know at this point is you have to call to arrange a meeting with a sales rep -- there are no prices over the phone and "some models are excluded". I did mention this briefly during one of my walkthrus at the lot and the salesperson did say that they did have a "AAA price" for the RX-8.

But, wondering what happens with the appointment and afterwards? Since there's nothing definite on the table, is it really just a come-on?

I'd like to hear anyone's experiences with this.

Thanks!

I got my car through that program back in late August or Early September. At that time, there were still a markup on the RX8 and when I got it for MSRP. No hassle. I just told them I wanted it for MSRP and that was it. I don't know if they will give you a discount now, since the car has been out for a few months. You might be able to get a better deal than I did using this program.

Good luck.

You should also check out the Costco auto program. I'm definitely going to try it out when I buy my 8.

Thanks John. I thought there was already a "pre-negotiated price" between AAA and the dealer but your message seems to indicate you made counter-offer of some sort ("told them I wanted it for MSRP"). Was the pre-negotiated price higher? I'm still a bit fuzzy on how this program works; whether it has any value over just negotiating the price directly or whether you can simply use it as a starting point.
