Angry Austin rumour: dealer principals playing silly buggers.

Rumour has it that a bunch of RX-8's arrived in Austin today, but the upper level management of the Roger Beasley group (which owns all four Mazda dealerships in and around Austin) has decided to divert them someplace secret for PDI, and intends releasing them to all four of dealerships at the same time. But it's anybody's guess when that will be.

Seems they want to do their own little "product release" dog-and-pony show. Staff at the dealerships either genuinely don't know what's going on, or are under instructions not to release any information.

Argh! Just give me my damned car already!

that is totally sleazy if that is true. They should wait for dealer cars if they want to parade them around .........and you KNOW they are driving them and climbing through them...........

Eccles or Meat - did you guys get the delivery email yet? And as for the offsite PDI - my salesguy told me as much last thursday or friday when I talked to him last. The dog and pony show was inevitable, have you seen the RX-4 wagon, rotary pickup, FB,C,&D at North? It was only a matter of time. Look on the bright side - the longer you wait, the more money you have to spend on it.

No, nothing... although you make a good point... my salesman did say, sort of as a side comment, that it might take a day or two to get ready once they arrive...

I don't know about that... I thought I knew my car was almost here 2 weeks ago! I'd like to know why they released cars without options before pre-ordered option cars. They've had my car 2 1/2 weeks... plenty of time to install friggin' options and get it ready to deliver as soon as the trucks roll. And now they've released and delivered cars that were ordered well after I placed my order. I hope we're not waiting on options to show up now! How long will that take? This stinks!

Well, if we have them stashed somewhere, nobody seems to know about it, even Mr. B. He and our GM have called several times today to see if any of the RX's have hit. It's now 5:30 and your going to have to excuse me if I vent a little here! I'm pissed. No, I'm really pissed. Not to sound like a spoiled kid,but we are the #1 dealer in the Gulf Region and have been for 3 years in a row. Our North store is right behind us. Between our 4 stores, we are the largest metro area for Mazda in the US. And does this mean anything? NO!!! There are little podunck dealers in BFE that have their RX8's. Do we have any? NO!!!!! Well, I'll have to back up a little. As I am writing this a transport just pulled in with a black base, black sport and a red GT. All with no port options. Maybe tommorrow we will see more. Thanks for putting up with my ranting. Need to go check in the cars.

I Haven't heard of this. Of course just because I work there doesnt mean its happening. However I do know that they do not want to be rushed to have the vehicles PDI'd. It is important that they get done correctly for a new release of a new model like the RX-8. If thats they case they'l probably use the technicians with the most rotary experience to make sure. I doubt it is because they want to parade them around for marketing and/or personal use.

I have checked the lot where all of our new cars get unloaded. Even checked yesterday. Nothing yet. Also remember the accident south of Hillsboro on I-35, it backed up traffic for 28 hours. That delayed all transport. Have you seen anyone get theres in San Antonio or even Killeen.

Lightbulb For what it's worth

I don't know if this will help but with the aid of a few freinds deep inside the Mazda Gulf Region Management, here is what I found out today about my car along with what I thought I already knew:
My car was on boat #2 which arrived in CA on June 27th.
My car showed up on my dealers list as being in the port (Midlothian) last Wednsday. The actual fact is that my car actually did not arrive physically at the port until last Friday, two full days later. That means not to take the dealer report as dead accurate. Give a couple of days leeway.Obviusly nothing got done over the weekend as far as port options being installed.
Given that my car arrived last Friday and has a ton of port options to install, I was told to expect my car either late this week or early next week.
I don't know if that helps anyone but I post it for what it's worth...:o

It's not worth much...

Mine was on the 1st boat, supposedly been at Midlothian since about June 26th. Now Roger Beasley's got cars showing up that nobody ordered? Why aren't the pre-orders priority? Still STINKS!

But thanks for the Midlothian port pictures Boowana!

Here's something to think about. If the dealer gets a couple of cars from his own allotment first, that makes it less likely that people will be messing with yours, the salesmen, techs, and maybe even customers.

My dealer got two of his own in, and this takes the pressure off of mine when it does show up.

Rumour disproven

It appears that this rumour was unfounded. Mazda South took delivery of three non-preorder, non-port-optioned cars this afternoon. See my separate threads in the RX-8 Discussion forum.

It helps me! I think my VIN (2035) is pretty close to yours, so we've probably been travelling together. I don't have any port options myself, but I sure hope you're right about next week. I'm getting nervous with a vacation coming up in a couple weeks...
