it drove okay. compared to the 08 i drove, it felt soggy and soft. it did not have as much power. they were close but the 08 was faster. does the intake and exhaust REALLY add hp, because while some posts here i have read say the intake/exhasut doesn't add any power - to ME the 08 with the MS intake/exhaust had more top end power. i don't think the intake/exhaust equipped car was any faster down low..but from 7000-9000 it felt stronger.

the 08 also felt tighter and cornered better. the 06 i drove felt slightly looser.

the salesguy, while friendly, told me the 08 had upgraded suspension. when i talked to the GM who drove it and did the upgrades, he said the suspension was totally untouched. i also popped the hood and looked at the nuts around the suspension components and they all looked untouched confirmign what the GM Said. that 08 has nothign but an intake/exhaust and wheels. the window sticker was int eh glove box - it is a GT with an MSRP of 33000. he added whels.

the wheels are "Bigg" wheels. go to biggwheels.com they are the wheel called "Style" in black chrome. looks okay on a black car...

anyway... i offered them 23k on the 08. the finance guy came over and siad they would do 28900. I told them that there was no way I would even consider paying that much. i pointed out they had another 08 40th anniv edition with a window sticker asking only 26999 that had NO miles on it and he claimed that the car had 5000+ worth of upgrades.. the wheels/tires/fender strakes/chrome accents/blah blach. i reminded him it had 4500 miles on it and he said they considered it new. the finance guy was sort of a *****. i expected him to come back at 26 or something.. whatever...

i walked off. i told them i might be interested in the white used one if they would cu the price down enough to ledt me add some MS goodies.

when i drove the 06, it clearly had warped rotors and the tires were bad. it's gonna need some work. it needs tires, brakes, and to ME it would need
MS shocks/springs/sways/intake/exhaust.

how can a car with only 19k drive so much more sloppy than one with 4500 miles? does the rx8 loosen up THAT much in just 2 years / 15k?? the 08 drove much much tighter/better than the 06...and they supposedly have the exact same suspension setup.

only difference is tires. the white 06 has Dunlop SP8090 tires and the black one had potenza RE050 or somethign like that...

anyway, no deal on the black one. i can't imagine they really think they are goign to get almost 30k for that car. the finance guy tried to hammer on me that the MSRP was almost 40k and that i was asking them to take too mucho ff.

i politely told him that while he thinks the mods add value - to me they didn't and the car had 5k miles. i nicely told him i could find a new 08 GT with NO miles for 26k and add the intakie/ehxaust and be out the door for less than his car. i'm not sold on the wheels and honestly, now that i'm home, i'm not that bummed out that i didn't close a deal.

i'll find something else. honestly if i spent 30k on a car, i'm gonna bu a boxster...

I'm not too surprised by any of this. Notice I said "someone will walk in and pay $29k for this car" it seems they agree.

Was that white car already front line retail ready? You say it needs brakes and tires, are you sure they have it in the condition they plan to sell it in? I mean I jsut clicked past 20k and needed Tires and brakes, so it seems they are still running originals... coincidentally, I thougth I needed rotors until I bought some new ceramic pads and decided to skimp, and skip the rotors, and now magically there is no rotor shake anymore... Perhaps with new rubber, no shaking brakes, an MS exhaust and intake and you may be interested at their number? You could even suggest that you'd take the pair with 4500 miles on it?

the white one has OEM tires/brakes. i felt what i believed was rotor shake and assumed they were warped...

it was very clean. there were some stains inside on teh dash and door sills that to me...looked like a crummy armor all job.like it dripped and left a streak..if that was cleared up the car woudl be like new. 19k.

when i drove it, it felt slow. noticeably slower than the newer one with intake/exhaust. since many of you are saying the intake/exhasut adds NO power, then i'm assumign the white one is older, has worn parts, or something that is making it slow.

i also borrowed my dads boxster this weekend what a mistake.. now i want a boxster.

if you haven't driven one dont. it puts the rx8 to shame. in every dept except back seats. sound, look, feel. my dads ca has 72k on it and it drives better than the 06 rx8 with 19k.

its faster..despite being rated at ONLY 217hp..and with 18s ... 265-35-18 on the rear, with porsche upgraded suspensin, it corners TWICE as hard as the rx8.

i'm gonna save up and get a posche. screw it

If you can afford the insurance..

Sounds like your heart wasn't in the 8 after all. Glad you found out now so we all won't have to endure another biotch fest later on. GL &

don't get me wrong - i'm not baggin on the 8. Heck, I wanted to buy the black one with intake/exhaust I made them an offer. but instead of making reasonable counter offers or trying to work a deal they just blew me off. the sales manager guy who came to talk to me was a real *****... maybe my low ball offer pissed them off. i was polite, explaiened that i thought they should discount it given it had almost 5000 mileson it..instead of explaining why they stuck to their value, or going over specifics..he started asking me if maybe i would want a CX-7 or someting in the "20 thousand price range"... he was rude. so i left. i was not rude. i may have offered low, but i was polite and professional.

anyway..i like the 8. it's a cool car. it's just that to get what I want - it's basically looking like i am going to need to spend upwards of 25k. i had mistakenly though i coudl et a nice 8 closer to low 20s. and to make it the way I will want it - now that i've driven several - i'm going to have to modify the suspension. stock is too soft for my tastes. i'd need to do shocks/springs and probably sway bars and strut bars. so i'm factoring in, whatever i buy teh car for - to add another couple thousand for intake/ehxaust and the full suspension treatment.

the cheapest i can get a GT for is going to be around 25k if I find a leftover 08. add those mods and now i am at about 28k.

as much as I like the 8 - i have ALWAYS liked the porsche boxster more. it is a better car, period. sorry. but hey it should be. new they cost double what an 8 does. but you canf ind CPO 2005 models in the low 30s. so if i am going to spend 28-30k for the rx8 of my dreams - i'm starting to think that I might be happier to just shell out a bit more money and get the boxster. which is the car i really want.

insurance on a porsche is not all that bad. plus im 36 with no tickets or accidents. insurance is somewhat based on accident rates...try to insure an EVO or STi..now THOSE are $$$ b/c of the type ofpepole who drive them.

thanks for all the advice. who knows, maybe the dealer will call back and make me a more reasonable offer and we can start the process over again..but i'm not holding my breath.

the big thing i am after is amazing handling. i took my dad's boxster out over this past weekend. he has a 2000 base model. only rated at 217 hp. its's definitely faster than the rx8. i also thin it's 200 lbs lighter than an 8. he has 265-35-18 on th rear. fronts are a bit narrower...but they ar still fat. 235 or 245 i think. he has a factory optional sport suspension - probably the equivalent of putting mazdaspeed suspension on your car. his car handles like it is on friggin rails.

i pushed the crap out of the rX8 i drove on a big circular onramp and that thing stuck like glue. but the next day i was in my dads car, and it clearly is better. much much much less body roll. that is what i want. i may be able to do it by modding the 8..but no gaurantees.

i am not bashign the 8. i like it. it's a GREAT car for ht emoney. but the ones i seem to like ar enewer and pushing 25k-28k. then i'd want to mod it. at that point, it makes more sense for me to just buy a more expensive car out of the box.

i've owned TWO rotary powered cars. a 79 rx7 and an 87 Turbo II. both cool cars. i like them, but i don't "have" to have a rotary. i want a lot of bang for the buck.

i also like the idea of a convertible...i also liked the rear seats int he 8. but if i could have either and money were no object, i'd take the boxster drop top. the rx8 was my next best choice... who knows, it's entirely possibel i'll still get one if i can't get a good enough deal on the boxster.

i'm in no rush. this is a third car - for fun. time is not an issue.

Forgive the dry humor. I don't know much about the boxter personally, but if I were to ever buy any Porshe it would be that one. I love the look of them..Especially the '01 or ,02 that I looked at before I bought my 8. It was used, sitting on a car lot, and I just stopped. It was 36K then, and that was at least 4-5 years ago.

As far as the 8's go, The top suspension will be on the 40th anniversary as I mentioned and you just might be able to get a decent deal on one. A sway bar would definitely make it even stiffer... Considering the fact that the color is model and special edition specific, and you are using it as a pleasure vehicle, It might be something to consider in the future. I know Porshe's hold their value better, but I was recently offered 28K for my 06 Shinka which is color and SE specific as well. Most 06's w/ 34K miles would go for 15-18k period. Yup! I drive the hell out of my car, and I love every minute.

Either which was you go, keep us posted. I'm anxious to see pictures of this new beauty no matter which way you go! GL

Local 2008 Rx-8s are going for 8,000 dollars off their usual price here in Louisville. As for the dealer trying to scam you with the 40 th Anniv. Ed... go to another dealer that might not be as shady. Remember though, this could be the same place you take your car for maint. in the future. Trust them to do the right thing? As for a car with 4,500 miles driving so much better than one with 20,000 miles- could be largely attributed to the wear on the tires IMO. A car that has never been titled, but has 4,500 miles on it can still be considered new. I sure as hell wouldn't pay new car price for it. Some finance companies will consider a car used though if it has that many miles on it and never titled, or even leftover stock from a year ago with only 10 miles on it. Look into it and save yourself some money! Hope this helps.
