Unhappy Buyback today...check is in.

For those of you that have followed my unfortunate situation with the RX8 (still love the car - just not THIS car) here is the latest. Dealership has the check for the full purchase price including the amount I paid over MSRP in hand. I'll be going down around noon today to trade the RX8 for the check. They do a quick walk around to inspect the vehicle and then I'm on my way.

What's next? Well another RX8, of course, but I'm going to wait about 6 months. Wouldn't want to get another one with the "bugs" that this one has had. I'll miss her for sure...too bad they wouldn't give me the check for my wife instead (just kidding)!

Those of you who have 8's please enjoy for me in the meantime. Those of you who are participating in the buyback, how about letting everyone know your final outcome here, along with what vehicle you'll be replacing your RX8 with?

Just completed the process. Took about 15 minutes. No agruing, just sign three forms and get the check. There was no requirement to sign a form stating I would not buy another one either. Pretty simple really.

Just deposited the check...now I'm on the hunt :-)

Cool.. thanks for the update. I just got a call from the buyback group that my check is on the way to the dealer. Gotta schedule a time to take it in.

Still not sure whether I'm gonna complete it. According to the buyback people, the absolute last chance to back out is when I bring her in.

I'd really like to get another 8, but this time NOT pay the hefty markup. If I cant find a package/color I like at MSRP before I bring my current one in, I dont think I will follow through.. Ahh but who knows. Maybe I just swear off the 8 altogether and buy me a Kia. Hahahaha :D

I'm just glad we've been given this opportunity. :o

Hey wildwhl, so did they overnight a check to your bank and give you a check for the difference? Or did you not finance the car. I'm curious how mine would work seeing as I financed her and paid markup.

Since there wasn't a lienholder on my vehicle (I paid cash) the check went to the dealer for the full amount and I traded keys for check - clean and simple. Yes, I agree about the hefty mark-up. If I were you I would turn yours in, wait a few months, and buy one for far less than you paid originally. Just my humble opinion - but why pay more than you have to?

Ahh lucky you. Supposedly a check is cut for my bank and will be overnighted to them once I turn in the car. And I'm guessing the leftover will be a check to me.

Problem for me is I can't wait a couple months for a car, I need one now. :p Couple days ago, I was testing the waters a bit at another dealer and was a signature away from getting another 8 at MSRP. Of course I couldnt buy it as I already had this loan. But it was encouraging to know I could possibly get one waaaay cheaper. MSRP is fine with me considering how much I paid over. :o

Now I just hope there's a car I want at that dealer.. if not.. hmm.

Thanks for your info. I'll probably update this thread IF I sell back too.

Either way, I love this car and for me, it's 8 or bust! Hehe

Returned price

Can anyone relay exactly the formula of the returned price? Is it "selling price of vehicle", amount financed, selling price of vehicle +/- trade equity.....?

I had a complicated multiple trade + finance purchase and the amount returned is critical to my final decision...

Thanks in advance.

What a great opportunity for those who like the car but made the initial mistake of paying a premium over MSRP to correct their mistake. Probably a once in a lifetime opportunity.
