I also knew the invoice costs for the car as equiped and factored in rebates, holdback, dealer profit, made an offer and bought the thing. Finally, much to my great surprise, I happened upon a very reasonable saleperson that worked with me every step of the way. Bottom line, though, is that I was not desperate to buy the car and was willing to wait the dealer out. I guess that the dealer realized that they either sold it to me or they risked holding onto the car for months waiting for spring and all the while accumulating interest on the car as the model year slipped into the past. So, pateince and persistence do pay off. Keep at it. There are lots of RX-8s in inventory and the dealers are becoming increasingly anxious to clear 2005 inventory in advance of 2006 deliveries.
