Buying at invoice price possible?
Hi, I am very interested in buying a new Rx-8 within the next 2 months or so. I have been reading the posts on this website for about 2-3 weeks. I had my first test drive last week and I loved the car. I was hitting right turns going 70 mph with no problem at all. Did not even hit any of the other lanes. The car I want is about $30,244 with touring package, automatic (stop and go traffic in LA made this decision for me), Apperance package, rotary accent package, and Spoiler. I wanted to know what is a good price to offer the dealer. I heard of some people getting everything at invoice price. Is that possible and should I even bother offering an all invoice price which is about $27,542. Please let me know what you think and if you have a similar car with the packages I got, let me know what you paid. thanks

My car is configured almost the same way as you want (I've got the Grand Touring Package) and in December I paid $500 over invoice at Browning Mazda in Cerritos. They seems to have plenty on the lot now so I'm sure you can get it at invoice or maybe for just a few hundred over.

I got mine for $120 over invoice, but I bought my car in a different part of country, so it's hard to answer. On East coast (New Jersey and Pennsylvania), the answer is a definite YES. Dealerships here are overstocked with them, no one is buying them, and prices are dropping. Had I waited another month, I could have saved even more money, probably a little below invoice, so my deal isn't all that hot in this part of US anymore. I'd jump on Edmunds.com, and build your exact rx8 like one you want, and take it to them. Say, if you give it to me for this price (right at Edmunds invoice), I'll take it. if they say no, walk away and try somewhere else, or wait for them to call you. Don't let tell you what invoice is. Look it up on edmunds, print it out, and show them. Good luck!!

I already got the invoice from edmunds.com before I posted this up. The mazda guy has called me 2 times in the last week so I am thinking they are a little desperate. Any chance at getting under invoice or am I pushing my luck?

It never hurts to ask. If they say no then no problem. Also now is the best time to buy (at the end of the month) as the sold car count for the month is very important. It is easier to get a great deal at the end of the month then at the begining of the month.

Seems like a long shot, but I'd try taking $200 off invoice and see what they say. If they instantly say no without hesitating, then you know it isn't happening. It's good to try it anyway, because it makes odds of getting it right at invoice even better. Just stick with getting it right at invoice, and they will most likely cave in. Good luck!!

WOW 550 under invoice. Was it their invoice, or Edmunds? Maybe that's why you got it for that cheap. There were problems with it they knew about already. j/k. I respectfully say I don't believe you, but for now I'll pretend I do and give you benefit of doubt that you got a hook up from dealer employee. I know a guy who gets 500 under invoice form Ford and Mazda., but his dad works there. There's no way in hell my dealer would have given me that price if I got on my knees and begged.

Nice. I needed that. Too bad I graduated college in 1996. LOL I just have a hard time believing a 17 year old hs student (Jeuprx8)purchased his own rx8 for 550 under invoice. Not starting trouble, but I have to throw my own personal flag out on this one
