can I beat S-Plan pricing?
Hi,
been lurking here for a while and getting close to buying an rx8 (I hope) soon. I have the option of buying through the S-plan and I was wondering if I should be able to beat that price if I go in and negotiate on an '05 now that the '06s are imminent.
Basically S-plan prices are invoice IIRC.

S-plan works great on new model year purchases but the bargain diminishes as the year progresses.
You probably can negotiate a lower price than S-plan for 05's but not 06's. Good luck and happy hunting.

I started looking last October at '04 models, looking for a late production date due to problems with some of the earlier ones. The '05s had come out. I was at a dealership on October 31st (last days of the month are usually good for deals), and I had gone in talking S-plan on an '04. However, they didn't have a car in my first-choice color. I was offered a lower price for another color. I was not really interested, and started to leave when the price got lower. And then it got lower still. And again, probably to more than $1000 below S-plan. If only I had wanted Nordic Green.
I ended up waiting until right after Christmas for many reasons, and found a dealer willing to go $800 below S-plan on an '05, but he didn't have my color either, and the offer was only good until 12/31.
I ended up paying S-plan for an '05 in the right color with 3 miles.
The bottom line is that it is possible, but timing and flexibility in color and options are important.

i think haggling is most of the fun. it took me 2 weeks before, 3 days at the dealer, getting kicked out at midnight once and a day of mazda bitching out the dealer ( gerber rebate etc ) for me to do my deal.. 5900 under invoice back in april. S plan can't touch that. and it's not bad pay either. it was worth the frustration.
