Car delivery speculation
I finally got my salesman to give me another update on my car this morning. My car has been built, I have the VIN#, and it is listed as being "on the water" with a delivery date of the 3rd week in June. He said that he has another customer that has basically the same features on his RX-8, whose car is also listed as being "on the water" with a delivery date of the 4th week in May. He thinks that it is very possible that they are on the same ship and will both be delivered this month.
Is it possible that they pad the delivery date the same number of weeks for every car based on its build date, and that mine was one of the last cars on the ship while his was one of the first? Or are they moving enough cars right now for multiple ships to the east coast? (I'm in the Northern Virginia / DC area). My sales guy told me that most of the cars he has ordered come in a few weeks early. Of course I don't know the date it was built or was put on the water, so I can't use that information for my guessing. I realize that this is probably a futile exercise, but I'm excited to get the car and thought I'd see what other's opinions are.
Thanks

I know my car was held two additional weeks at port because they didn't have all the equipment available to install on my car at that time. I suppose it is possible that they can overstate the time it takes to deliver it so then you are happy when it comes early. I know my dealership said their Mazda deliveries routinely come in off the truck the day after they are scheduled to be delivered, apparently because of the truck driver. They are supposed to come in the afternoons but always arrive the next morning.

I ordered my '05 around this time last year...
The shipping dates are usually very accurate. Mine arrived in port 1 day early but was also held up there for quit some time. (about a week or so)
Unfortunately it sounds like your car is on a different boat then the other one. Don't worry though....when your car shows up to the dealership, it'll be worth the wait.

It is probably wishful thinking, but I am going out of town over Memorial Day weekend and would love to take the new car. I hate to wish away the Spring waiting on my 8! I am in a race against my wife - she ordered a Sky convertible that is due for delivery in 8 weeks.
New question: Now that I have the VIN#, is there another way to track it besides waiting on my salesman to call me / calling him?
