Dealer advertisements

Hey all...have any of you ever requested that the dealer NOT put on their advertisement before you bought the car?

The dealer in which I will mos tlikely buy the 8 from puts the dealers name on the car. Is this easily removeable? If not, should I just ask not for them to put it on, if it's not on already?

Tell them to leave it off or pay you a monthly fee for advertising. If you know that they actually drill holes in the car to attach their logo, be SURE to tell them to leave it off. However, I think most of the logos they put on these days are easily removable--either license plate frames of vinyl "stickers" that are easily peeled off.

I just told them to remove it all before I signed. They shouldn't have any problem removing the badge. Just have them to it in case they are one of the few dealers that still attach them to the car with mounting screws or something. Then they will have to patch it too.

I specifically requested that it not be put on the car. I offered to leave the license plate frame with the dealer's name on it on for a few months, though.

On the last three cars I've bought I requested that they remove it and I never had a problem. But do it before you sign your life away. :p I would have them do it because if they scratch it they will be forced to fix it or not sell it.

I've always asked for the dealer badge to either be removed or not attached. My cars are not display boards for advertising! If one is already there, have them remove it AND inspect the area yourself before signing. I've noticed that most dealer badges are put on w/ adhesive so it shouldn't be a big deal for them to take it off. If they balk, ask them for a fee just like Go suggested.

definately have them remove it, or ask for a good discount on the purchase price, 500 bucks at least, then have it removed professionaly

I was going to ask them to remove it on my 8, but forgot. When I got the car for delivery (a day after I signed all of the paper work...) they had removed the dealer badging and shined it up. I never did ask why, but I suspect with a car that looks like the 8, having a dealer logo is considered "bad form"... (Mind you their Mazda 6's, 3's, etc all have the dealer sticker on them.)

But as others said. Almost always it's just a sticker.. park in the the sun on a warm day.. peel it off slowly (if you forget to ask to have them remove it).

Most dealers seem to put those on there when they clean them up as they get them off the truck - so getting them to NOT install it is not usually an option, but asking them to remove it is.

If you lucky and it is a stick on "badge" they are the easiest to get off. Do it on a hot day (or use a blow dryer to heat up the badge) then "saw" it off with some monofilament fishing line. What I did is tie each end of a short run to a pencil and used those for "grips" to make it easier. Pull away from the car so the line never touches and it will come right off. You are sawing through the glue - and not touching the finish of the car. Clean up the remaning glue with WD40. Seriously, it eats up the glue instantly and does not harm the finish. Then I washed the area and gave it a coat of wax - and you can't tell it was there.

The stickers are actually harder to remove. You have to get them hot and peel them off. You can also use some "3m adhesive remover" to help out, but with heat and patience you can get those off too.

Classy dealers give you a free plate frame with their name on it - and no stickers or badges. Then you can use it or toss it with little effort.

In Maryland there is a big block on the Purchase Agreement for you to initial that states you consent to them putting on their ; insignia, logo or other nameplate...

Just REFUSE to initial and thereby accept that part of the contract. A contract is negotiable except for the parts required by law and that ain't one of them.

My dealer had his installed while it was getting prepped and I told him I didn't want it on so he had them remove it. My daughter did notice very very small scratches where they removed the glue with a razor. Fortunately you can only see them in bright sunlight if you are looking for them.
