Is the dealer going to give me a hard time?

I just called and made an appointment for tomorrow at the local mazda dealership for the following:

-Oil/filter change
-Long start issues (never NOT started, but sometimes takes forever)
- my vin falls between several TSB and recalls such as AC fluctuating, loss of power sometimes, long starts, damper recall, air bag recall, oil light came on then went off, but oil level fine. I am experiencing all of these things.

My car has 5700 miles on it, and is a 6 speed. Heres why i ask if they will give me a hard time or not:

I didnt buy the car from a mazda dealer i bought it from carmax. The mazda dealer by me is asking anywhere from 31-35K for a new 6 speed. Carmax sold me this one on the road for 27,900. It is black on black leather, 6 speed and every option except the navigation screen and rear spoiler. I like it better without the spoiler anyway but thats neither here nor there. I dont even know if the car had/came with the original mazda warrenty. I know i bought a 3YR/36,000M bumper to bumper warrenty from carmax. But it is honored at any dealership they say. But does this include recall work, or TSB work if im experiencing issues? If i go in tomorrow, should i only pay for the oil change and filter, if all the rest is a recall or TSB?

This is my first NEW car, ive had 6 previous cars but all were 8 years old or more, so i never had to deal with warrenty/recall work before.

many thanks!

Why wouldn't the car be under

factory warranty? Your car comes with a 48 month/50,000 mile warranty....did you know this? I would assume that the CarMax warranty is ON TOP of the original 48/50K from Mazda, if not then you've got some isssues with CarMax.

Anyway, any Mazda dealer will service the car under warranty. They shouldn't give you a hard time about anything.

Also, you get a free laoner car for the warranty work, so make sure it's arranged BEFORE you show up for your appointment.

Print out the TSB's and recalls so you have them when you arrive at the dealership and discuss the cars "symptoms" as they relate to the TSB's.

thanks man. I think i need to do some digging. Carmax never even mentioned to me anything about a mazda warrenty. they just pushed their warrenty.

Ill post my experiences after tomorrow with the mazda dealership. I hope everything turns out ok and they treat me good. Im so use to crack head rude dealerships from my dealings with volkswagon and honda. Maybe its just me, but every dealer ive ever gone to for my older cars, has been sneaky and unwilling to help.

was your car new or used? they it's none of their business where you bought or how much you paid. all mazda dealership have to handle any warrenty work claims on any mazda vehicle that is still under the original factory warrenty. all recalls are covered whether you are the original owner or not. i would think all tsbs are covered too but i am not sure if the car is used.

1) the dealer shouldn't give you a hard time and 2) If CarMax didn't tell you about your warranty that came with the car, you need to go back and let them have it. And I'm almost positive that warranty you bought is parallel to the one on the car- for which they should be ashamed. I'm going to go ask the girl that manages the warranties in just a minute. And If you go back, and they give you any problems, let me know and I'll put you in touch with a Customer Relations person.

edit Talked to our warranty person, and she can't figure out why they would even sell you that warranty. And it's on top of your factory warranty-so if the factory warranty didn't cover something, then the MaxCare would kick in. I think (and she agreed) that you need go back to CarMax and get them to cancel the warranty they sold you. As long as you're within 30 days of buying it still.

I bought the car used from carmax, with 5200 miles like i said. It was 27,900 sticker. They did not ever tell me about a mazda warrenty. I was approved for a loan through several of their financing companys, and then their screen came to the warrenty info page, and i was told to "choose a warrenty for the car". The default on the screen was 5/60K, but they wanted 1299$ for it and i said no. I ended up buying the 999$ 3/36K warrenty from them. Im going to read over all my contracts and documents from them, but i know for a fact no one EVER mentioned that this car had a warrenty from mazda. I assumed if there was a factory warrenty from mazda, the original owner who was selling the car had to specify they wanted it sold/kept with the car, and i also assumed i would not by default get the same warrenty that the original owner bought or that came with the car when it was new.

I have an appointment for 8am tomorrow to drop off my 8. Its running pretty rough, with little power over 4K. It isnt as smooth as it was last week when i bought it. I checked the oil level today, and it was right on the L mark. I added a quart of castrol gtx 5w-20, which rbought the fill line to the F line. I am having them look into all the recalls maza put out, and TSBS, especially for the surging AC, the new PCM flash, hard starting and lack of power, and the oil light. Is there anything else i can ask them to do to diagnose the engine power issues? If anything is wrong, wil the PCM show it? Im not up to date on what the new cars can tell when you hook up the PC to it. I know i bounced the tach off the rev limiter ONCE by mistake. Would that throw a code, or put the car into a form of limp mode?

If i re read my documents and they do not mention a mazda warrenty,i am going to go into car max and talk to the saleman i delt with. If that leads me to a dead end, i would very much like any additional help you could give me.

So to recap, if im not the original owner, and the car was bought used with 5K on it, will any recalls and TSBs be free?

thanks all, this site is great btw.

Call Mazda North America with your VIN and get the original warranty transferred to your name, so Mazda will send you any updates instead of to the original owner. You have the original 50k mile 48 month warranty that came with the car- they don't just not transfer, unless you're talking about the Hyundai 10 year thing that doesn't apply after the first owner. The car hasn't even reached it's first scheduled maintenance yet if it's at 5200 miles (standard first service is 7,500.) And yes, all recalls and TSBs should be free- the recalls have to be, and the TSBs will be if you are experiencing the problems listed by the TSBs.

Your sales person was a ninny. They are always supposed to tell you about the remaining factory warranty. Did you go to Laurel or White Marsh? You have 30 days from the sale to dump the MaxCare coverage. After that, it's prorated. I would have a talk with a Sales Manager if I were you, and explain your Sales Consultant's lack of forthcoming on the warranty issue. And again, if they give you any problems, I'll hook you up with a Customer Relations person.

I will call mazda tomorrow to have the warrenty transfered into my name

I went in today, and dropped off my 8 at 8am, and before i even finished signing the car in, they were taking it right into the shop to start work. That made me feel good. They all seemed to know the 8's to. Referencing TSBs and recalls from memory, and speaking knowledgibly. I recieved a call at 12pm stating it was ready. They did a road test, found it lacked power and was hard to start, and found the PCM wasnt up to date. They also said no codes were thrown ever. So they reflashed the PCM, and did an oil/filter change like i asked for. As far as the AC goes, they looked intot hat, but said it was normal operating for these cars to fluctutate intensity. I didnt have the TSB in hand, and didnt want to wait anymore, so i said thanks and left. I paid ~20$ for the oilchange and filter. I also bought a box of the mazda brand 5w20 oil. That cost me another 24$. so for less than 50$ i was out the door. I was satisfied. So if anyone is looking for a good mazda dealer who really cares about helping you, Shaffer and Strominger Mazda in white marsh is great.

On getting the car back i noticed the power was alot smoother. Before i complained about it driving bad and feeling rough. Well that is gone. The idle is a tiny itty bitty notch lower, it use to be 1 notch below 1, and after the latest flash it is now 2 notches below 1, but it is steady and smooth so i dont care.

I have another xtion though about the warrenty if you dont mind. I called carmax today and am going to go in tomorrow afternoon to speak with my salesman i delt with. Im just going to tell them i wasnt informed about the mazda warrenty on the vehicle, that is LONGER than the one they sold me anyway. And to have 2 is redundant and a waste of money. The maxcare warrenty cost me $999, and that price was included in the overall total the bank financed me for. If i cancel this warrenty, will they simply cut me a check for the $999, or somehow try to get it out of the financed amount? My first payment is due sept 14th. So what will they try to do, so i know in advance what to expect. Id like to get a check cut for the $999 and have it cancelled ont he spot. Is this something they will/can do?

Many thanks, i will let you know how it goes. And this was the white marsh carmax.

Talk to the MANGER!

Don't waste your time with the sales rep...he's the one that put the screws to you; (intentionally or unintentionally due to ignorance...I don't know.)

Re-read the post by Elara.

See the manager, get the check cut, and get out of dodge!

BTW, if a loaner car is NOT transferrable along with your warranty, I would try to negotiate that it be included whenever you bring the car into service at this dealership as reimbursement for your time and effort to undo their deceptive tactics.

They can only say no...

Carmax cancelled the warrenty without any complaining. However they didnt cut me a check like i would ahve liked (who doesnt like to get a 1K check?), they paid the bank who has my loan 1K towards my loan. Eh...

Glad to hear everything worked out okay. I'm surprised to hear that it was White Marsh, as Laurel is the store that has the reputation of being more "hard sell" than the rest of the company.
