Easiest Way to Remove the Audio Module "Hidden Bolt"
I have discovered the easiest possible way to remove that hidden bolt that keeps the main audio module secure to the dash. Simply have your Mazda dealer work on your radio ... they are too lazy to put it back.
I went to install my 6 CD changer today and discovered that when my dealer installed my tape deck last summer they just didn't bother putting the bolt back. I guess it was just too hard!
I was livid. What other RX-8 parts are service technician "optional"? Is there some special notation in the tech manual I am missing? Does this mean that when they work on the engine they don't have to put the bolts back on all the engine mounts?
(I feel better ... I just had to vent somewhere)

If it makes you feel any better, when I was putting mine back, it fell off the wrench and into the bottom area somewhere. I couldn't find it. The radio isn't going to go anywhere, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I understand the radio is probably fine without the bolt. I would never have know it was missing if I hadn't done the 6CD install.
It is just irritating because these are supposed to be "trained professionals" and I'll bet they were just too lazy to put it back.

I dropped mine at least once if not twice in the half dozen times I've had my head unit out. Each time it fell into the carpet. By pulling it loose from the center console and using a magnetic "wand" I got it back.

Trained professionals maybe? But many are dumb & don't take care of customer's cars.
Example.... I found a bolt in my tire when I drove the car out of the dealership with 5 miles on it. They removed the bolt but I still wanted a new tire/wheel and they agreed to replace it with one on the lot.
Tech first replaces it with a Dunlop brand. I was in the garage and told him I had Bridgestones. Got another RX8 with the bridgestones and then replaces the wheel from the wrong side (directional tire). Told him it had to be from the other side.....
I'm glad I do my own oil changes /maintence!
