getting dealers to lower price?

whats the best way to get a dealer to lower the price of a car? one dealer around me has an 05 sport i want with about 30k miles. they are asking 16500. this seems really high. they are a mazda dealer. how can i get the price down? never bought a car from a dealer before.

Find out how long it's been on their lot. Most dealers finance purchases on a 90 day same-as-cash basis. Once it's been on the lot more than 90 days they have to start paying interest, which makes them much more anxious to get the car off their lot.

Best thing to do is go to your local import mod shop and ask if you can have one of thier guys come with you to look at the car. They're pretty good at nitpicking at everything that's going on with the car to get them to talk the price down.

I had the same problem, dealership wanted 17k for a 05 with 36k miles on it. I brought a good friend who worked at the car customs shop. I thought the dealer was gonna cry by the end of it. Asking them to explain a lot of stuff, and them proving them wrong also helps.

the easiest and most effective way is to find out what the fair market price of the car is, then offer that price. be willing to check around at multiple dealerships, be willing to drive around a bit to find that car that works for you.
