If you're going to be off to college soon, I would suggest the IS. You will need the "storage" space.

I'm in college, and honestly I never need more space than I have in the 8...The only time it might have been useful to have some space was when I moved up here, but since then I've had no need to do any moving of bulk accumulated college crap...

That being said, I've actually owned both cars and can honestly say I'm happier with my 8 (though the IS was an auto and I hate driving automatics.) The IS is a great car, don't get me wrong. It's quick, well balanced and VERY nice. The 8 just strikes a chord with me and it's simply more my kind of car. I say drive both and see which one you like better. If I needed a more family-oriented car, I'd be right back to the IS in a heartbeat (though this time in a manual), so you can't really go wrong with either choice. PM me if you have any questions about either car.

I must be gettin' old. My first thought is that an 8 is too much car for a 17 year old... Whatever you choose, learn how to handle it so your folks don't end up getting a call from the morgue in the middle of the night because you lost it and wrapped your car around a tree. That would suck.

The price on the 8 is way too high, you could get a new one for less then that.

Get the IS, you'll get a better trade in for it when you get rid of it towards a new RX8 when you get out of college.

The trunk in the IS isn't really all that much bigger than the trunk of the 8, and the seats don't fold down either
