Hmmm, hard to tell when you throw in title and fees. I'm guessing the price is around $1,200 below invoice. Mazda is offering $1,500 cash to customer rebate right now, which brings your total savings to about $2,700. Not bad. I'd say it wouldn't be outrageous to expect the dealer to come down to $2,000 below invoice, but that might take a little shopping around on your part.

i know around my dealer they are selling 5 k off sticker. so that would be 2-3 k under invoice. to save money, i would drop the gt, appearance, and tire and just go for sports package. Save money and get parts with it . Good luck.

My dealer said the price was %2 over invoice, then he took off $1500 for the rebate and another $500 since I qualify as a recent college graduate. The price before tax/title/$399 dealer fee is $29,032. According to edmunds.com, the "True Market Value" price of what other people are paying for this exact vehicle is $30538 before tax etc. When you say that it isnt outrageous for the dealer to come 2000 below invoice, do you mean before or after the $1500 rebate? Thanks

Hmmm, the people paying $30,538 for an RX-8 hopefully aren't members of the RX-8 Club, because that's a terrible price! You'll be rewarded for your membership in this club with a better idea of what the price should be. Others have gotten $2,000+ below invoice without ANY incentives from Mazda.
Have you gone to other dealers? What are they offering? If you shop around, you should be able to find a better price. I'd say if you're in love with this particular car, shop around anyway so you have some better quotes you can bring back to this dealer and get him to come down.

So do you think I should negotiate a fair price w/o taking into consideration the $1500 rebate + the $500 college grad? When companies do rebates, does the dealer get reimbursed? Meaning, even though teh dealer is taking $1500 off, he will get $1500 back from MAZDA? If thats the case, then I want more off AND THEN the $1500?

The incentives are from Mazda and cost the dealer nothing. This is a bad deal.
The dealer is starting with the questionable premise that the price is 2% above invoice. Wrong. The price is whatever you negotiate. For what it's worth, the dealer paid $30,000 for the car (check it out yourself at kbb.com).
You should be able to get the car without any incentives easily for $650 below invoice. This price has been available at CarsDirect.com for several weeks now. The CarsDirect price is for people who don't want to negotiate. If you're willing to negotiate, you should be able to get the price even lower.
I think you should view $2,650 below invoice, including incentives, as the maximum you'll pay. That's the $650 below invoice available online plus the $2,000 in incentives you qualify for. It doesn't matter if you negotiate the price before or after incentives are applied -- it's just semantics (like the dealer saying the price is 2% above invoice -- BS). Just be clear in your own mind and with the dealer what you're doing.

This is not a price that CarsDirect stands behind. In fact, the dealer from whom I'm purchasing an RX-8 offered a deal at $1500 less than invoice, effectively selling the car at invoice and deducting the $1500 rebate, a price $800 less than the CarsDirect "target price."
On the other hand, for some vehicles and some areas CarsDirect provides a "guaranteed price" that one or more local dealers have agreed to honor. This is a firm price that calls for no negotiation. It may be that CarsDirect has such a price for the RX-8 in some areas of the country, but not in the Seattle area. On the other hand, I was browsing their site recently and found "guaranteed prices" for several other cars. My guess is that such "guaranteed prices" were specific to my zip code since the website offered to put me in contact with the dealer willing to make the deal at the stated price.

Little high
I bought practically the same car (minus the spare tire) for 31,000 after taxes and all that good stuff. So not a bad deal. How many miles you got on it? I got mine w/ 9. I bet you can shake 'em down at least 500 more.
