I just had a dealership order an RX8 from the manufacturer for me. Has anyone else ordered a car and if so how long did it take for you to get it?

 

why did you order it? could the dealer not locate a vehicle to fit what you wanted?

 

at least 6 months.

the thing is, if you order a car, they're going to build it in japan and then ship it here via surface transportation, then it's going to sit in customs until it's cleared, then it's going to sit at your local port until it's had the local inspections and then it'll go to your dealer who will clean it up and you can take delivery.

The surface transportation can take up to 2 months alone and it can sit in customs for another full month if not longer if you're unlucky.

 

I personally can't recommend ordering an RX-8 right now, by the time you get it, the 2005s will be out, or close to it.

 

The dealer did try to locate the configuration I wanted but could not find it. He tried to sell me one that was a close match but I didn't want it. I've bought cars impulsively in the past and I always ended up regretting it. Either I didn't get the car I want, or I end up paying to much. Since then I've learned to be patient. It's not urgent that I have the RX8 today. I don't mind the wait because that gives me the opportunity to save more money for the deposit, so I can buy this car rather than lease it and keep my payments low. Thanks for all the responses, I have a better Idea of my wait time.

 

i knwo how you feel about not being able to find an 8 exactly the way you want cause im in the same situation as yourself. if you were to order an 8, it'll take you 12 weeks if your in the wastcoast like myself. unfortunately, the 8s are produced in japan unlike other mazda or japaness cars. im pondering the same thing you are whether to wait in order to satisfy my entire desire or should i sacrifice a little in order to have one sooner... make a wise choice for you'll have the care for at least few years.

 

Does anyone know if you order an 8 with GT, can you get it without the sunroof?

 

funny, i wanted the same thing. It's my opinion, but the sunroof really breaks the look of the car from the front

 

I had ordered my GT , no sun roof and it was in my hands three weeks later . The dealer was able to negotiate for one that was already on the ship on its way over . Once it was in port it took 2 weeks

 

4 months: Ordered 3/3/04, arrived 7/2/04, mfg date was last week of 5/04

I ordered a 6MT w/GT pkg, what arrived was a 6MT with GT PLUS splash guards, spare tire, and 6 disk CD (doesn't Mazda look at what you ordered?, evidently not!)

Dealer was not happy with unordered addons either, they sold it to me exactly at invoice in order to make the sale.

 

Just ordered mine today. Salesman said 8-12 weeks, we'll see about that.
