How Much $$$$$$

Hello All,
I have been reviewing the dealership/ordering/financing threads again and got several qoutes from different dealerships. Overall I feel like they are still trying to rip me off, but atleast when I explain that their qoutes are way too much for the car they are going down. I got the below configuration from edmunds on one of the cars they were offereing. The question is how much should one really pay for a car like this considering it is a 2004. I have heard a lot of different things and at what point would most people consider it a good deal. Thanks, everyone.

Stephan

If you're in the Phili area, I know where you can get a red RX-8, GT + Nav for just over 28k. I'll let you know where as soon as I get mine this weekend. You'd have to drive a little ways but if it's worth it to you PM me. Btw, in your searchs, have you come across any 8's with the Red/Black leather?

When I got mine there were only two in the country a month ago. TX and Illinois. This was for tjhe Velocity Red, Auto, GT, appearance for the 04 with black/red leather. Kind of rare now I would think. I guess 05 is the only way with those options. Find out the invoice price and go from there. Keep in mind the dealers don't pay the invoice price. Its lower than that just like we don't pay the sticker price either. Good luck in finding the RX you want. You might want to venture into a used one but the dealers want them within a few thousand of a new one.

I have been looking around and contacting dealers but they haven't really seemed to catch on. The only one that is being cooperative or close to what I had before is my original dealer with the same deal I got 8 month ago.. 6sp sports package for 26000 +- some... But considering most places have several cars on the lot I would assume that they would start getting flexible at some point.. I am certainly not going to give in any time soon but it does get a little annoying. Especially after you have explained that you have owned one and the qoute they are giving is considerably more than the last time. In anycase, TheColonel let me know were and what you have found so far. I haven't seen many with the red/black leather combo for a while.. I guess they must be selling quicker but will let you know what I run accross.

Thanks,
Stephan

I'm supposed to be getting mine tomorrow. $25,100 for a Blue Touring Package from Wayne, NJ. There's a 2,000 dollar dealer incentive that I know of. I'm getting an additional 500 off for being a recent college grad. If you need any more info, let me know. Goodluck.

Check in your Edmunds listing under incentives - available. It shows $1000 manufacturer to dealer marketing incentive 10/1-11/1. That should buy you at least that $1000 under invoice.

I checked under Edmunds and the only incentives that I can see are the college rebates. Is this per region/state?

I suppose it could be regional. I ran it for Virginia out of habit. I had to scroll down to see it on the incentives page.

I'd say so. $1,731 below invoice. Congratulations!

Yup, that seems like a good price to me, especially for a grey. Enjoy it!

Congradulations on the new car.. Quick question, what would everyone think is a fair price for the car mentioned on page 1 of this thread. I calculated that the invoice price based of of edmunds is 27900. I'm was planning to make an offer of 25,500 and mostly like try and settle on 26. Anythoughts? The other dealers all seem to have color I don't really want or other option packages.

I think that sounds like a good plan. Maybe start at 25K so you have little more room to negotiate.

Well, I think anyone here would have nothing but respect for $1,900 below invoice. If you're the competitive type and want to be the best, you could try for $2,500 to $4,000 below invoice, if you believe everything posted here. Keep in mind though that there's a lot of things people aren't telling you, like what kind of deal they got on trade-in and financing, which of course affect price. There's a lot of people who appear to be living the American dream who are so financed up the wazoo and in debt, it's pretty sad.

Of course and I think 1900 below invoice is a great deal and there is always a way to get a couple of extra bucks out of it but there has to be a time were one feels they have gotten a good deal and that lies somewere between 1900+- to invoice.

Invoice isn't really a good deal, you should be able to get that anywhere (especially since it's available online). I got $1K below invoice 3 weeks ago with a little research and shopping around, so I tend to think that's the max anyone should pay.

Yngve,

Who did you deal with over in Ft. Walton? I'm in Pensacola and am either gettin my 8 from there or the local Sandy Sansing Mazda. How were they? What kind of breaks did they give you? I hope I didn't wait a few days too late. I want the same setup you got.

I got it from the local mazda, bmw, merzedes and toyota dealer in fort walton. My sales person was Ryan something. Great guy. All of the guys over there were easy to deal with. Did not really have to hagle at all. I told them where I needed to be on the price since I had my own financing and they came to where I needed them to be. They have several 04's left, not to many with the 6 speed so dont wait to long. They have one yellow top of the line with the DVD Nav system that they are very motivated to sell. I would have taken this one, but my wife was not to happy about the colour. Good luck.

If you're still shopping, Wayne Mazda in NJ has like 5 or 6 '04 Red GT's with black leather and nav. They're trying to dump them and I just got mine for $28,3k. Good luck.

But don't tell them I told you about the price... just keep it in mind when haggling...
I wouldn't want my salesmen getting pissed at me...

Well they came back pretty quickly with qoute on a different car, the one I was actually looking for, a 04 black 6sp with sports package (exactly like the one I had) for 25,000. Then one of the other dealers called me and said that they would be willing to match and that they would get back to me shortly. So its wait and see but atleats the ball is rolling..

That's great! You're already at $1,211 below invoice. Anything now is gravy. I say you go for the whole $1,900. Before you buy, you should check the body and rims for scratches, get them to reflash the PCM if it needs it, and take the car for a test drive to make sure they're not selling you the one that fell off the lift.

I'm pretty confident that they will come back with a even better offer.. I bought my last rx8 from them and were quite pleasant. My last one ended up having a tiny little scratch which I didn't see and they pointed it out and gave a free detailing service that go rid of it. So I'm fairly confident that they will live up to their part of the deal.
