How much did you pay for your recently purchased RX8 (from Mazda dealers)?

I was looking at those. They are advertised as new, but have over 100 miles each. I am not particularly cheap, but I think $25.8K is a tad much. It bugs me a bit that the car has been seating on the lot for over 2 years. Nothing but good things happen when a car sits unused outside.
I didn't like that it did not have xenons, fogs, or electronic stability control.
They ended up selling it for 20k an hour after I passed.

Open Road Mazda of New Brunswick (NJ)
09/20/08
40th Anniversary Edition + Aero Package + Window VIN# Etched
~$26,000 + $2400 taxes.
Came in Friday evening with $28000 OTD offer - walked out at $29,400, next day they called me back to come in again and they did agree to $28000, but refused to lose another $880 on aero package that car had, so we split it down the middle and total came out to $28440 OTD

Are the differences between the 08 compared to the 09 worth the extra $3000 or so you'll save? I talked to some dealers and they all told me the 09 RX8 is much better than the previous models in terms or reliability and performance... is that true? Or are they just trying to b.s. me?

I recall the only difference is slight stiffening of the chassis in certain areas, but I test drove both before I bought my 2008 and I concluded that they were identical except for the exterior "facelift".
I got my 2008 40th ann. edition for the price of a 2009 sport. You can't really bargain when a model is brand new

its probably slightly better in the long because of a bit improved lubing scheme for the engine and maybe a very slightly stiffer body because urethane foam reinforcements throughout the chassis
but IMO the car got uglier in 09 and the 08 still has 8/100,000 warranty on the engine.
take the $3500g

Im thinking about trading my car in for a newer 08 or 09 model, most likely 08 since I dont really like the facelifted, but 09 has newer engine modification so dunno
Just gonna wait another month, if there is any 08 left with crazy deals. I might just trade my car in (restore it to stock config first of course)

Hey Guys I am planning on buying a 2009 Rx8 GT edition (manual of course) this coming Saturday. The dealer in Maryland quoted me $32, 233 down from the sticker of $34,570. Here's a link at the specs on the car. Can you tell me if that is outrageous or within the right ballpark? Any tips on haggling with the dealer would be greatly appreciated too.

Make sure to not sound too interested. Make sure too point out all negative things like MPG and 8's not having the best track record(tranny syncros, engine failures). Even though it is a GREAT car make it seem like it isn't so great.

Honestly that sounds outrageoues. I bought a used 2008 40th Ann Ed earlier this year and a used Toy Tundra from different dealers. They were used but I lowballed the dealers and walked out with my deal. Dealers are having big issues with cars now and there are lots of RX8s. I think there are web sites where you can find out the dealer invoice for the new car and the options however even if you offer them invoice price they still make money. I'd have to do my homework on the car but my initial instinct is to offer somewhere around $28k ---- "out the door". (Taxes would be extra so maybe adjust for that.) Don't let them hassle you with "extra" dealer costs. I can guarantee what will happen is the sales man will go see his manager either come back with a counter offer or the manager will come back and try to deal with you. Stick to your guns. Believe me.... if you go in with CASH (or prior financing) you will get the car for what you want. Don't be afraid to walk out.
When we dealt for the Tundra which was on the lot for $25 we offered $20k "out the door" including taxes. They took it and figured out the actual cost (~$18k) in order to fit in the local tax to get the total to $20k. Of course with used cars they may have a bit more wiggle room depending on what they got it for.
