I found out dealers ACTUAL cost for an RX-8!

HA! After winning my Sunlight Silver on Fear Factor, I was responsible for paying taxes on it. So, Fear Factor was sent me a 1099 to do my taxes with the retail price of the car ($31100.00). Then, lucky me, Mazda made the mistake of sending me a 1099 that LISTED THIER ACTUAL COST!!! I have always been curious what type of markup the dealers make...now I know.

Its a good thing to keep in mind when you are negotiating with a dealer and they say something like "We are already barely makeing any profit on this sale, we can't possibly go any lower." Now I can confidently say "yeahhhhh, riiight."

Take a look at the pic below:

Before anyone get too excited, Mazda Motor of North America is the distributor in US and Canada for Mazda. Even though they are wholly owned by Mazda, they buy from the factory and they sell to the the dealers. The number above is the wholesale cost not the dealer cost.

Fear, you're a better man than I am. I can't believe people really do that stuff on that show. I want whatever I eat to be DEAD and not moving on the way down. What does that stuff taste like???

way off topic- but I would assume that a show like this would have to be medically sure anything they ask you to injest would not permamnelty harm you. Any thoughts - any docotrs or lawyers care to comment?

You probably have to sign a waiver. You never know with any of those bungee stunts either.

Yeah, there a TON of documents that you basically sign your life away by signing.

The "food" is the worst stuff I have ever eaten/smelled/or even seen in my whole life. Just entering the room for some of the eating stunts made you want to throw up because it smelles so bad. The worst by far was the coagulated blood on the pizza I had to eat. It tasted like sh*t and had the consistency of Peanut butter so it was impossible to swallow. To make it worse, after eating it, they won't even give you water to wash it down until ALL the contestants have finished thier turns!

Check out a quick story about my experience at http://www.stealthauto.com/ff.html

What is the wholesale cost? I thought the cars were purchased by the dealerships from the assembly line.

Hardly a mistake; they had to provide you with the 1099...

You know when you glanceat the car it looks a little expensive but I guess the parts turn out to be so cheap since its a Mazda. Oh well.

In response to Nubo, Fear Factor (Lock and Key Productions) had to provide me with the 1099, not Mazda. Since I ended up getting two, I now have to have Mazda re-issue me a $0 1099 to cancel the one they gave me, otherwise I'd pay tax on BOTH 1099's.

I don't understand this stuff very well eithe, that why I have an AWESOME tax accountant on my side!

since you dont have to show a 1099 unless you get audited, why not use the lower one- if you get an audit- just show both and claim the higher is a mistake since obviously you did not get 2 cars. also won't both get reported anyway? even if they match? it's just a mistake- you should not have gotten 2- I would use it to my advantage.

Cool car price

Check edmunds.com for car prices. Invoice less hold back money is the real price of any car not just Mazda's.

So much for a free car when you have to pay the tax on it. Some people would have to sell the car to pay the tax. They should also give you the cash to pay the tax (and the tax on the cash too!). D** taxes.

Regarding dealers' invoice, I found both edmunds.com and kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) to agree on the base pricing for invoice. Both sites also have links that will show you whether there are incentives or dealer holdback deals that are current. For example, I think there is a current $500 rebate for college students graduating.
