My advice would be to enjoy the car, and next time you're looking for a car, just do 15 - 20 minutes of research. You don't even have to shop around for hours and hours, just do some basic research, and you can figure out what a reasonable price is. Beyond that, if you want to haggle over getting an extra fifty or hundred dollars off, then you'll have to go around to different dealers. But just some basic research should keep you from getting hammered for thousands next time around.,

of course the dealership didn't do anything illegal, but they took advantage of an unknowing buyer and did not exactly do it in a moral way....

I do have to agree, the dealership didn't do anything illegal of course. I know they want to make money, the more they sell the car for, the higher their provision (sp).
I got my license yesterday and went for a 8hrs ride. Now I'm addicted to the car,... I don't have any regrets
I've learned from this, I won't be as stupid when buying the next ride. Lesson learned, no need to get pissed. I handle this so well because it was my own fault,... now let's start on the live mp3-injection port and my P4 that I want to mount in the trunk

Oh the humanity.. I feel for you man. I was there too.. Believe it or not, I was the first on the island to own an RX-8. Most will deny it, but it's true.. The cars were on island for over a month, June I think, but were finally ready to sell on July 11. I was right there signing the papers by lunchtime.
I posted many a times here about the crazy Hawaii markup. My name is synonymous with the Hawaii markup bitching hahaha.. I am one of the early members of the board that followed this car like a hawk. My salesman probably hated me by the time I bought it.
Anyhow, it's sad on how dealers gouge here. We've got nowhere to go unfortunately. Many of us dont have the time or energy to go to the mainland to buy a car and ship it back here. It's inevitable. It's either deal with it or wait a year or so when they're sitting on a bunch of them and can't sell them. The only thing we can hope for is to minimize the bleeding.
Dont dwell on it much, chalk it up as a learning experience. It's your 1st new car purchase and your new experience will make you a better consumer the next time around. If it's any consolation, you got yourself a wicked car, you're happy, so enjoy that ride!!
What color is your 8?

I recently bought an 8 in Hawaii and was able to pay about MSRP plus tax and doc fees. Like the others have said, every car dealer in Hawaii tacks on some ridiculous dealer markup between $3K and $5K. In most cases though if you are willing negotiate through all the BS that dealers give you, you can get a pretty decent price. Under invoice is pretty much out of the question here unless you know someone. If you get an under MSRP deal you've done damn good...and right now the 8s are still fairly new and the dealers here do not have large inventories of them so you're not going to steal one.
FYI Hawaii cars come from the mainland. In the case of Mazdas, they go to the west coast first and then come back to Hawaii if I'm not mistaken. They don't come here directly from Japan.
Everything costs more here...you just accept it as a cost of living in paradise.

Cool another Hawaii 8 owner! Where'd ya go.. Cutter, JN or Mckenna? I'm guessing Cutter?
What color, options?
So far I've counted 2 Hawaii 8 owners that are on the board, Thrasher, and Me.. there's gotta be more, and I've probably missed them..

I got the Ti-Gray w/ Sport package from McKennas. The peeps were much nicer there than at Cutter. I had not seen any 8s on the road at all till I got mine. Then on Saturday night while driving around I saw a blue one that was right in front of me at a stop light. I don't think that guy saw me cause I never passed in front of him.
From talking to the dealers I went to, Cutter and McKennas, there probably aren't a whole lot of 8s on the rode here. I'd say between 50-100.
