I'm finally getting mine!!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!

Guys!!

I came to terms on a RX-8 today at a local dealership. Even though they didn't have what I originally wanted (AT w/ sports package in winning blue or silver or titanium), I ended up getting an awesome deal on a MT w/ appearance package, rotary accent, spoiler, 6 disc CD in Silver for ...get this.....$ 27,000.00 Out the Door!!! MSRP was $ 30,000 w/o taxes and tags!!
What do you guys think??? You think I can find a better deal or is this as good as it gets??

I put down a holding deposit ($150) and picking the car up on the 27th. Hopefully, for chistmas, I receive money to help me put a bigger down payment and buy some snow tires. I'm also hoping to know how to drive stick by then!!!! LOL

ANyway, I'm excited and thanks for providing me with so much info on these cars. I think I knew more about the car than the dealer did. I found myself explaining certain issues with the car to him.

Now, the only thing I'm worried about is insurance. I live in a thieft prone town and I'm 24 years old. Factor in "sports car" and my commute (30 miles each way) and I'm probably looking at $3000 and up a year.

ok guys, wish me luck and thanks again.

Whether you got the best deal is a function of what market you're in an how well you negotiate. I'm not particularly great at negotiation and I paid $500 over Dealer Invoice. Some people pay less than Dealer Invoice, so I've hear (on here.)

Perhaps more importantly at this stage of your deal (given that you've already settled in on a price); did you get your own loan or line of credit rather than letting them hook you up? If not, use the time between now and the 27th to do so. That's where a lot of people get screwed. I don't know your credit situation but I assume it's not too shabby since you're plopping down $30K on a car. My bank gave me 5.29% and the dealer then shaved a few tenths off that. Had I gone in un-funded, I have no doubt they would have offered me 7 or 8% as "the best we can do".

Regarding insurance, I can tell from the "snow-tires" comment that you're not from Texas. But in Texas, so far, the car has an insurance classification of "16" (I think that's what my insurance guy said). That's an index that relates to how expensive your insurance is going to be. For comparison, my 2001 Mustang V8 was rated as an "18". I save $150 ever 12 months by the 2-notch-lower rating. He said the rating number can go up or down by four "classes" by next year, depending upon whether they lose or make money charging at the "16" rate. Regardless of what state you live in, given that the car is new to insurers, that it's a "4-door" and it's not a "V-8", there's a good chance you'll do okay. I'd suggest phoning your insurance guy tomorrow and gettting him to weigh in on the issue. Actually, before you phone YOUR guy, phone about 3 or 4 others (people who want your new business) and see what kinda deal they can work out for you. THEN call your guy and see how he stacks up against the competition. If he wants to hose ya, then you can say "well I got this quote from company-x. why can't you match it?" Don't forget to ask for anti-theft package discounts and good-driver discounts, etc. (if you qualify). It's been my experience that they never offer you such discounts unless they're trying to get your business for the first time. You have to bring up the issue and then they're "happy" to oblige.

Just some thoughts about ways to minimize your costs. Congrats dude!! I've had my 8 for seven days now and it's awesome!! If you've got some money left over after closing, I'd look into a radar detector and a clear bra as my first two add-ons. The radar detector will hopefully help keep that insurance down and the clear bra will protect the looks of that $30K bad-boy. Good luck and happy driving man.....

Way to go! Sounds to me like you got a great deal; my advice is to stop anguishing over it, get the car and have a blast. You are gonna be SOOO glad you got the M/T; that is how the '8 is meant to be. If you practice on stick before the 27th you are in for a pleasant surprise; this clutch/transmission is soo freakin' easy to use; "like butta" as they say. I hadn't driven stick in like 18 years, and have to drive up a steep hill with a stop when I leave my house. I was sweatin' that. But from the very first, I handle the hill with full stop on an upgrade, and don't roll back maybe an inch or two from the first time I tried. And it just gets better from there.

Congrats; sounds like a hot car; check in after you've been driving it awhile.

You will probably notice that the insurance isn't so bad on this car. I also have received discounts on my insurance due to the rear window airbags and other features. They haven't been on the market that long so theft ratings and other considerations haven't been figured in yet but as long as we all try to keep from wrecking our cars and everyone remains as diligent and watchful as I am with my baby they shouldn't be stolen very often. So don't fret too much.

awesome deal man! I would also suggest that you get some financing done before you go back in.. like a credit union or something like that. Going into financing was fun when he dropped a whole point off just to get my business!

You are going to love it.. I got the MT as well and I have learned to drive it reasonably well and I love every minute in the car!
