what's your coverage/deductible

of course being in NJ automatically makes your rate higher than most people in the country

i have progressive and mine is ~1300 for the whole year...

I've had Geico for years and found their service and rates outstanding. I pay a little over $875 a year(full coverage) for the 8. No accidents ever and only one speeding ticket in nearly 20 years.

AAA seems to have good rates. I know this may sound a bit odd but when I was calling different insurance companies Allstate gave me the cheapest quote for full coverage maximum with lowest deductibles, which was less than $20 a year more than AAA. Everyone always tells me Allstate is so expensive, but they seemed to be about average, and they have a little more flexibility with levels of coverage and deductible rates, I was noticing.

Depends on the city I guess. In St. Louis AAA had the lowest rates for me. Here in Seattle its State Farm, AAA here had quoted me almost twice for the same car/deductibles!

I also remember Hartford's Omni Automobile policy being pretty inexpensive.

I just heard back from my agent (Farmer's) regarding my new '8. my premium is actually going *down*, by $25/6 months, compared to my A4. considering the Mazda is currently worth 2x as much as my outgoing car, I'm pleasantly surprised to say the least

Gee, I did those internet quote checkers and found they are way off. I checked Allstate and they quoted me $840 for six months full coverage $100/$250 deductible. I called them on the phone about it a few weeks later. Well, now it is $2480 according to them for less coverage. If I were to get the same level of coverage as I had gotten in the online quote it would have been $3160!!!! This is more than my car payment!!!!!

Well, now I am trying Progressive Drive Insurance who gave me the second lowest quote out of the bunch at $953 for six months. This is for full coverage with $100/$250 deductible including gap insurance. I talked to them on the phone today and was told that my actual rate should be reasonably close to that price and could even be lower than that once they go through their final supervisor approval. I asked if that were still true even though I have only had my license since December, permit for about seven years. She said it should still be that range and potentially could go up maybe $60 for six months. She said part of this being low and not going up so much from lack of experience is because I have excellent credit (730-780 depending on agency) and am now 25. It also helps that I work at home and don't have a daily commute! So, I am hoping she wasn't lying like the Allstate people!!!!

Well, Progressive wins at $987 for six months!!! At least theirs was really close to actual after filling out the online quote.

I'm still pleased with that price since everyone else was offering me in the $300-$400 and up range for far less insurance coverage than I get for around the $190 a month range. The reason I kept getting for this is since I only got my license in December 2005 (even though I am 25) I have no driving experience regardless of the fact that I got my permit seven years previously and have driven during that those years. Makes me now wish I had gotten my license all those years ago even though I didn't have my own car and drive regularly. Progressive told me that wouldn't have made much difference (according to supervisor this morning) because of my age bracket. Apparently it would have had I not just turned 25.

Just under $100 a month for full-cover (100/250 deductible) with State Farm. With advanced age (58), a decent record, 15-year experience with SF and a slew of multi-line discounts. Loyalty does pay off in the insurance-buying business.

I'm just starting out there, first car, first insurance, et cetera. I tried also with who my life insurance was through since I had gotten something in the mail recently from them talking about discounts with multiple policies. I called them and was offered $278 a month for insurance, full coverage, $100/$250 deductible, without gap insurance, including my multiple policy discount of $15 dollars. I wasn't very impressed.

The Progressive lady said they assumed you were a safe, responsible driver, et cetera, from the beginning until you prove to them otherwise, in which case they raise your rates (probably by quite a lot).

Ironically, the Allstate person on the phone said that since I worked at home and didn't have a daily commute I was a higher risk since I would have less driving "experience" by not doing it regularly, daily. Well, who is to say exactly how often I drive and where I go just because I don't commute to work?!!! The Allstate person didn't even ask me approximately how many miles per year or what purpose my car was for, just since my primary job was at home and I was deemed to not have a daily commute I would be a high risk. I was less than impressed with their customer service.

Wow, that pretty much pegs the BS meter all the way to "11"!!

by that logic, tell her you've decided now to purposely put in more miles than you originally claimed, and ask her what your *new lower rate* will be then!!!

No kidding! I thought risk was assessed by how much you would be on the road and driving. I usually go to the post office about twice a week, 10 miles each way. Grocery store probably once a week, 15 miles each way. Will be joining a gym this spring and going at least four days a week, 25 miles each way. And then whatever my other job requires of me, since I don't know at this point, still in training. I have a few other things I do every month but also do them with my mother so we would ride together, most likely her driving since she doesn't like to be passenger very well.

I should give her an itemized list of where and when I intend to go somewhere. That ought to lower my rates right on down there!!!!

I am just going to go with the Progressive Drive Insurance since their rates are significantly lower than everyone else for me right now. I just have to let them know about a week before my car gets here so I can get the policy and have insurance when I go to pick up my car, which, according to my dealer, when I am informed of it's "released from port" status it should be about a week before I have it.
