Hyberborea you are right in many a ways and I'm definatly NOT the type of person to look at a very well written, intelligent response and respond along the lines of "...ur stuupid". So I would just like to say that the sentence "Insurance is about spreading risk around a large group so that the effects of catastrophic accidents don't totally destroy an indivual" I never really saw it that way. However, it seems that's almost the same principle at vegas if you know what I mean. Yeah, everyonce in a while some dude wins $40 million dollars, but because of everyone else playing nickel slots like it's going out of style the casino doens't even flinch. However, we are *required* to gamble.

Yes, the minivan situation is a quite real scenerio, BUT, in order for me to be required to pay for all the damages for said family in accident, I would have to be at fault like you mentioned. I geuss I play my cards more towards me not driving like an idiot(after getting back from my year over in Iraq I've been driving like a grandmother). The only accident I've been in was I was stopped at a stop light and a lady slid into me. How she didn't see my bright yellow escort, I dunno. But it was a minor accident and she paid for everything because she was at fault.

Obviously I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but I'm sure we will head our seperate ways, me still thinking insurance is a crock and you seeing the plus's involved. But again, I did like that one sentence of yours, that's a great point.
