Insurance costs

I can't imagine this not being posted somewhere, but i swear i looked in the search and couldn't find anything! Sorry for spam if this is like the 300th time this has been posted but I just can't find it.

Anyway, I heard that you can report the car as a 4 door sedan rather than 2 door coupe. This true? And does it matter? When it comes to insurance, I'm totaly retarded, is this car costly to insure (say compared to a new muscle car, or even a cheaper Japanese car). Any info based on other cars you've owned would be nice, just as a comparison, this isn't a deal breaker for me, just something I've wanted to know. Thanks

EDIT: Just wanted to add that I have very high credit, and no tickets / accidents on file

You don't report it, the insurance company has classifications of cars, it depends on how they classified the car.

I'm paying $160/mo for my RX-8 (full coverage) and a Mustang (liability only) with 100k / 300k stackable here in FL.

I'm 26, no tickets. I'm using American Express Causalities (www.americanexpress.com under financial)

Compare that to what I had before: AIG insurance, liability only on the Mustang (my only car at the time), with 15k / 30k coverage. $144/month.

I *was* paying probably about $800-$900 *per year* for my 2001 Aztek, and when I changed over my insurance, I reduced my yearly mileage from 12k to 10k, and was told my premium would only go up $124/year...

Of course, I'm using a discount insurance company (Mercury Insurance), I've got 9 years of driving experience (what used to be the "25 year old discount), I've got a degree in a "science" (Comp Sci got me a 10% discount), and I've got a spotless record (no tickets, no claims)... So I'm sure all that has worked in my favor.

I'm just glad I don't live in Jersey still, auto insurance there was HORRENDOUS. Instead, I just have to put up with insane housing costs -- but a lot of those are tax-deductible.

damn...you guys insurance is low.

up in Toronto, I'm paying 400/month on a 2000 Accord ( I had a very unfortunate 1999 and 2000....but c'mon) and over the past 2 years my insurance goes up by 50bux a month on renewal for no reason at all. I hate insurance companies so much...they are such slime.

I cant even imagine what insurance on an 8 would be for me right now..... Next year, by the time I'm ready to buy an 8 my insurance will go down considerably but I'll still pay a pretty penny on a brand new 8.

Insurance companies in Ontario, Canada is a big concern up here because they are out of control, there is only so much the provincial government can do and they know that.

Insurance is just a formality people, god forbid you use it...only use it unless you absolutey positively have to. Even after my insurance gets better I don't think I'll ever use it again.

Here's a crazy deal, I'm paying cheaper for this car under AAA than my Solara when it was under Progressive.

I'm 23/male.

I know I've had an unfortunate '99 and '00 but let me ask you guys (two accidents...and the pay out was small. )....

Have you ever seen your insurance literally DOUBLE? Let me tell you it is quite the mind boggling experience! Its like witnessing David Copperfields greats illusion ever, but on the complete opposite end of the emotional spectrum.

I'm paying $300.00 every 5 months so about 60.00 a month through American Family Insurance. My 8 is cheaper than my 2002 Jeep Liberty by a few bucks. I can't believe what some of you guys are paying for insurance.

I'm paying ~1500 a year in insurance on my 8. Down from ~1800/year on a 97 Ford Probe, although I have a new insurance company now.

Seems high compared to all of yours rates but I live in the insurance hell of the world, NJ, and ~1500/year is a miracle for 23yr/male.

I think the 1.3L helps a lot. Insurance companies love the looks of that.

Insurance rates are highly dependent on your location, so finding out what others pay for insurance isn't that useful. E.g., my insurance dropped by 50% by moving to CA from AZ.

26 years old, no tickets / accidents
100/300 full coverage at $150 / Month American Express Casualties...I hear they are really good with insurance and extrememly picky about who they insure....If you can go with them it would probably be your best bet...

I don't know about your area, but where I'm at, a speeding ticket is worth a lot more than 1 point. I recall seeing 6 points for a speeding ticket, the ticket may be worth more points the faster you were going too.

hmmm, so a minor infraction like lane change without signal would also give you 1 point?
