do you guys know how the insurrance work on cars?
does it matter on hp and doors and size of engine?
i know rx-8 is considered 4 door and very small 1.3 engine. and its very safe.
is that mean the insurrance is cheap??
how much you guys pay??

for purposes of insurance this car is considered a 4 door sedan...which means it'll be cheaper than most other cars. I pay $1300 a year, and if i got the 350Z i'd be paying $1800. It's all underwriting and risk assessment, driving around a torquey beast just means they expect you to smash it. when it comes to assessing risk insurance companies usually end up being right or out of business.

I was pleasantly surprised by the insurance cost. At first, I thought State Farm must have made a mistake. I pay about $1000 per year. This is almost exactly what I pay for my second car which is a 98 Prelude.

I just called to have my insurance transferred from Mustang convertible to RX-8. Premium is C$600 per year- cheaper than on the 'stang. I've got two cars and my house with them. The insurance company is Aviva head office in Scarborough Ontario. Don't know if they offer in US.

I have to wonder if the rates will change over time. Might be getting a break now since they're using gross attributes to classify the car (number of doors, etc). But over time I'd think they'd use the vehicles actual statistics as a basis. Hopefully it will prove to be a very safe (and theft-resistant) car. But I think most of us realize it's more of a sports-car than the insurance companies seem to think. My guess is rates will go up.

According to Allstate it is considered a 2-door coupe. I'm 43 with a clean driving record and no claims in 10 years but I'm paying over $1000 a year ($573/6 months).
