Two points:

At least two EVOLV-Chicago members have had their warranties voided by Autobarn in Chicago. Most of our group won't even set foot in the door even to attend a Mazda meet (of which Autobarn is charging $20 to attend!!!) I would be extremely wary of ANY deal offered by them. Get EVERYTHING in writing!!!

The Crossfire has that ugly pop-up spoiler thing. My girlfriends and I all call it the Crossfire butt flap. Skip that car, imho...

I was shopping for that car actually. No other cars were on my list at that time. It was new and rare and I liked the specs (except FWD) and jumped on the wagon.

It will be probably 8 months or so if it falls in schedule with the other cars I have owned. Although, the 8 is special in that it will be my 20th car I have purchased/owned.
But chances are I will wait for the RX-8 replacement to come out if this car is a great driving car like everyone here and all the reviewers say.

I bought it becasue it also can fit 4 people easily into the vehicle...the Z and Crossfire can not. I have two boys and it helps get the family around town.

I sold my 1992 300ZX and bought my RX-8

So back to handling issues. I live in the US and I am sure most of you are here as well. I just don't run into a whole lot of curves....especially in Fargo, ND. So without curves, would it still be fun to drive?
I know I will love it on snow because I will be back to my RWD roots, until I hit a curve and dent my car.

I have never seen the car in person and dealerships around me don't have them and on Monday, I will be driving 3 1/2 hours to see this car and to test drive it. I am buying a used one, but with 950 miles on it with GT and navigation for $24,999 (I will negotiate a little more of course)

I love power, but power doesn't define performance and that is why I want a car that does well all around. So please give me more posts here folks. I really appreciate your input on this one.

I am considering Crossfire for its classy nature. It isn't all about power, but it is well built and based on Mercedes SLK so I like it.
i'm not gonna rip on the classy part .. but how is anything related to ford worse chryslers?

Its true what they say, power isnt everything. I was in love with the evo since I was in 7th grade, way back in the ancient year of 1994. It was then I decided that when I was old enough to drive id have one. Fast foward to 2003, I grew up, signed a petition for mitsu to bring the evo here and my dream was very close to being realized. It came here, I drove it, and thought wow, this car is everything I heard it was. Fast, handles well, and looks cool. Im gonna buy it. Then before the deal was sealed, I test drove an rx8 for the hell of it. She was sitting pretty, dressed all in white in the dealer back parking lot. First thing I noticed was hey, its not as fast as the evo, but what the hell...I actually dont care! This car is awesome. I signed the papers that day abandoning the rally champ for the sexy rear wheel lady sitting in my driveway today. I never even looked back, nor do I regret my decision. This car puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. Truth is there is more than enough power to be considered fast. No it isnt a 13 second car stock, but if your lucky enough to own one of these, you dont care. You appreciate the car for how awesome it is, and how unique it is. The only thing im pissed about is that I cant take it in to bed with me.

I am bewildered. Why are you trading in cars so fast? It's such a waste of money. If you had waited one more month and not gotten the Jetta you could have gotten a 350Z for the same overall price you paid for the Jetta/Eclipse combo.

There will always be a better car out there that you'll want to have. If you constantly trade cars in, you're going to waste a lot of money that will inhibit you from looking at more expensive cars.

I didn't know anything about them until I started hearing at meets that they were voiding warranties. And MNAO has to listen to them concerning the void because they are considered the "expert." Though what I find extremely ironic is that one of the members who was voided by Autobarn took it to another dealership and suddenly found his warranty un-voided (or never voided in the first place?)

It's shady dealings like this that allow me to say that I will never deal with them.

/hijack (sorry!)

So, you're worried about price but you buy new cars and trade them in after a year or less?

I have never considered RX-8 as one of the choices of cars that I want to buy next, but since Mazda is offering additional discounts and great financing due to low sales, I want to give it a consideration. But I have a few questions.

1. Do you guys feel that it is underpowered? I would appreciate it if someone that downgraded from higher BHP answered this. If you upgraded from a Dodge Neon or something similar, it would be obvious, but I will be downgrading from all the cars I have had. So previous Mustang GT, 350Z owners...probably no one came into this car from Porsche or something?

2. Why did you choose the RX-8? For the same price you could have chosen so many other cars...I am so curious.

3. How much oil do you have to put every month if you drive about 1500 miles/month

4. I have read some of the past gripes about certain things about this car. When you answer above Q's, could you please give ONE improvement that is desperately needed in this car?

5. How much you paid for the car, and I welcome people that purchased this recently with options listed.

Sadly, I am discussing it here because my local dealership does not have any of these in stock. Nearest one I want to buy is 3 1/2 hours away and I don't have a whole lot of time to drive that far and test drive it because I am busy with school and work.

Also, performance means more to me than the appearance. Power really isn't everything in a car. And I know that this car is lighter. I do enjoy being a minority in the market. I don't mean underdog, but being not "Camry" or "Accord". I know my '06 Eclipse will pick up sales and become like the third generation Eclipse...it will be everywhere and I am looking at Crossfire, RX-8, 350Z (350z's are too common as well) or Acura TL.

Thx in advance.
Take this advice from a fellow Sig:
1. The RX-8 is not underpowered, especially when you consider that you will be using it on public roads. You simply have to rev it to extract the power. When you stay 5,000 rpms and up, you will be definitely moving. Of course, it will not have the kind of torque or power sensation that V8's or even V6's give you. If that sensation is your concept of "performance", then definitely stay away. I think relative to your Eclipse, the RX-8 should feel at least equal to it performance wise.
2. If you appreciate the rotary engine, this will definitely be the biggest selling point of the car. After that, uniqueness, styling, handling and the practicality for a sports car are next.
3. At 1,500 miles you probably wouldn't have to add any oil. But if you started full, you would probably notice your level dropping, but not necessarily so much that you need to add oil.
4. I think the only improvement needed is little bit more HP, but only to put the critics to rest.
5. I paid about 28K before tax for everything minus nav.

To me, the rotary engine is why you should end up keeping the car for a long time. Using it during the winter will be a factor unless you have winter tires. The gas mileage is adequate for a sports car.

Based on the list of cars you provided, if you need more than 2 seats you are down to the RX-8 or TL. The TL is a four-door luxury sedan, so you should be able to decide easily between those two. Good luck.

What is a "Sig"? Also, let us know how much money you lose on the deal. And are you going automatic transmission or manual?

Sigma Chi Fraternity => Sigs....

I don't drive AT because it gets dull fast. I have a six speed now and I will make a good transition to 6 speed with this car. What I am looking at is 6spd w/ GT

P.S.
Is it worth waiting for 06 version?

I see a "how can I make the car faster and what mods are best for speed" post in his future followed by "traded in the 8 today" lol.

The MT's are relatively the same for '06. The AT have big upgrades (to make it more comparable to the MT), but since you'll be going MT, it doesn't really matter.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head in terms of differences from '05 to '06 is the new key entry system. You get one of those credit card deals that you stick in your pocket that allows you walk up to the car and open the doors without using the FOB (just have to have it on your person) and you hit a button or something to start it.

You won't get as good of a deal on the 06's, but you'll have a much better chance of getting exactly what you want since you can custom order one.

It is a flip key for 05? or is it standard Key+FOB?

if you get a used 05 with just a couple K miles on it, you will save enough to start modding right away ... just a tip

I want to be the one to break it to her and for financing purposes, it will be cheaper to get new. And I have no plans for crazy mods yet. Want to get used to the car for about 2 months, and then start performance mods and then appearance.

Actually I have an 05 TL and an 05 RX-8 (GT w/AT) if SolidGun is still considering his purchase. Last post was dated a few weeks ago. Everyone else has commented on the 8, but I will say i don't really feel that the AT lacks in power for daily driving.

As far as the TL goes, it is an awesome car as well. Very comfortable, great handling, wonderful engine, too many standard features to count, great value for the money. It does have a fairly wide turning circle, though, so it may not be for you if you are wanting to do lots of tight u-turns. Test drive it and see...
