Invoice prices
I was told that there are websites that will give you the invoice prices for various cars. But I have been unable to find these websites. I am trying to find the invoice prices for the RX-8, 350Z and the SRT-4. Could someone post a link to one of these websites that give invoice prices. I am looking to purchase my car in the next couple of weeks and I need accurate invoices. I don't want to go to the dealer quoting the wrong invoice price.
Thank you for your time

I used Edmunds (free) and Consumers Reports Online. Consumer's reports online cost $12 for the first one and $10 for each additional car. Both services matched.
On accessories that are not listed by Edmunds, check http://www.trussvillemazda.com/parts...004/model/RX-8 to get a rough estimate.
After salesmen at two dealerships told me the dealer invoice prices I had were incorrect (but would not show me their prices, - playing the usual salesman BS game) I stopped talking to the salesmen. I wrote emails to fleet managers at three dealerships telling each EXACTLY what I wanted including all options and I listed my dealer invoice prices and MSRP (or Trussville price) and told them to each provide a bid as a fixed dollar amount or fixed % over the dealer invoice prices I supplied. All three bid using the dealer invoice prices I supplied.
There is a pretty good book called "What Car Dealers Don't Want You to Know" by Mark Eskeldson that helped me out. I don't know about your area but dealers here in Houston are finally becoming competitive on the RX-8.

The mentioned sites are good resources to get the invoice prices. Note that their prices will match, yet many (all?) salespeople will tell you that "your numbers are way off" or some similar BS.
The best thing to do is: do a research based on these sites, and spec out the exact car you want to buy, with all of the options you need. Don't care about nitty-gritty details like cargo net, spare tire kit, floor mats, fender strakes and the like - you can get them cheaper later on from Trussville, for instance. Calculate the invoice price, add max. 3% plus $500 (to cover the destination charge) and you arrive to the price you are willing to pay. This is the absolute maximum - gives the dealer about 5% profit (considering the 2% holdback). Once you have this number, make an offer and DO NOT BUDGE A RED CENT. If one dealer doesn't take your offer, walk. There will be eventually one who is willing to sell at YOUR price. Don't be afraid to call any dealer even in a 100 mile radius. Believe me, you will have a deal. The key is to be very firm on the price and the exact option list.
Of course if you can get them to take a lower offer than 3% over invoice, the better :D
Also, read this site (at least what's applicable): http://www.carbuyingtips.com/
Oh, and in case you get to a deal but they don't have your car on the lot: be sure to get the offer you agreed upon in writing. In case they do have a car coming in soon the way wou want, get the VIN onto the written agreement too, together with the estimated arrival date. In case they require to pay a deposit (I did not have to pay anything), get that amount also onto the agreement.
Good luck!

Preach the truth, Tamas! :D
Hey RX-Appreci-8, did you trade your 3000GT on your RX-8? Happens to be exactly what I'm doing - '96 GT SL.

S3/P3/E2 -
It was pretty hard getting rid of the 3000GT SL! Mine was a great car. It had very low miles (53K) and the only thing visibly worn on it were the leather seats - otherwise mint condition. It never needed any warrantee work either just usual upkeep which I did myself. I'm pretty loyal to brand and would have considered Mitsubishi again if they still sold something comparable.
My eight year old cried when he found out I was getting rid of the "red race car". Fortunately he loves the new Rx-8 with the zoom-zoom commercials and all the attention it gets everywhere we go. Me too!
Good luck with your new Rx-8!!

I just checked with my manager. We'll sell any stock RX-8 at Invoice.
I need a letter from your bank or be willing to do a credit application.

Rx-Appreci-8,
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Your son and my wife both have the same feelings about parting with the SL. She's about to finish her degree after many years of part-timing and we're both in our early 30's and still with no kids = it's about that time (you know what I'm saying). The fact that the 8 has such a decent backseat means there's no issues with trying to put a seat back there when we get to it, but given a choice between keeping the '99 Firebird she drives or the SL she'd gladly send the Firebird on its way. Unfortunately, the Firebird is still under warranty and would get us less in the trade; so we're trading in the SL instead.
Of course, considering the interior room, once she's working we've actually toyed with the possibility of getting RX-8 Part Deux. I think I may have created a monster when I split the test drive with her... :D
